Marketing Type: Real Life Events

Funding Scheme: One-time

Initiative Summary : This proposal seeks to secure funding for a Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO) community networking event to be held in conjunction with Buidl.asia and ETH Seoul Week in South Korea, June 2023. The event aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, foster collaborations, and strengthen the DAO community within the thriving Asian blockchain ecosystem.

Our marketing strategy involves leveraging the influence of our Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), who will aid in promoting the event through their respective channels. This includes social media posts, blog entries, and potentially webinars or live Q&A sessions to generate interest and provide more information about the event.

By using our KOLs, we aim to reach a wider audience, raise the profile of the event, and ultimately encourage more participants from the blockchain and DAO communities. This approach not only falls under event marketing but also incorporates aspects of influencer and content marketing.

Expected Impact and Value : The proposed DAO community networking event is expected to bring significant benefits to the NEAR ecosystem and community.

  1. Knowledge Sharing: The event will gather professionals, developers, and blockchain enthusiasts, providing a platform for sharing ideas, experiences, and skills. This can lead to better use of the NEAR protocol and stronger DAO development within NEAR.

  2. Networking: The event will provide opportunities for networking and potential collaborations between NEAR community members and other DAO participants, possibly leading to partnerships or joint projects.

  3. Visibility: By holding the event in conjunction with Buidl.asia and ETH Seoul Week, we will raise the profile of NEAR within the broader blockchain community.

  4. Community Growth: Showcasing NEAR’s potential and its vibrant community can attract new members, contributing to the growth and diversification of the NEAR community.

  5. Influencer Engagement: Our KOLs will help us reach a broader audience, including those who might not yet be familiar with NEAR, bringing new interest to the NEAR ecosystem.

  6. Increase NEAR BOS Usage: We want more people to use NEAR BOS. During the event, we’ll have workshops and sessions explaining how to use it and the benefits it provides. We aim to get many attendees to sign up and start using NEAR BOS.

  7. Boost IAmHuman Verification: We want to verify as many new NEAR users as possible through IAmHuman. We’ll have a dedicated booth at the event to guide attendees through the process. To encourage participation, we’ll hold an airdrop for those who complete the verification at the event.

How this Helps NEAR:

  1. NEAR BOS Sign-ups: By getting more attendees to sign up for and use NEAR bOS, we increase its adoption. This helps grow the NEAR ecosystem.
  2. IAmHuman Verifications: By assisting attendees in getting verified on IAmHuman, we ensure that more users are verified humans, strengthening the security and integrity of the NEAR ecosystem.

Promoting NEAR’s Features:

  1. Easy Sign-up and Onboarding: We’ll show attendees how easy it is to sign up for NEAR using just their email and guide them through the onboarding process.
  2. NEAR’s Cross-Chain Capabilities: We’ll highlight the benefits of NEAR, including its ability to work with other chains like Ethereum, allowing users to enjoy the speed, low cost, and scalability of NEAR while avoiding being stuck in one ecosystem.
  3. Use of NEAR Components: We’ll encourage attendees to use NEAR components to build their own apps, highlighting the community-built components available and how they can create their own apps from scratch.

In conclusion, this event aims to not only strengthen the NEAR community but also to encourage the adoption of key NEAR projects like NEAR BOS and IAmHuman, which are crucial to the growth of the NEAR ecosystem.

Metrics for Measuring Success : To gauge the effectiveness of this event and its impact on the NEAR ecosystem and community, we propose the following success metrics:

  1. Attendance Rate: Measure the number of attendees at the event. A high turnout would indicate a successful marketing campaign and interest in the NEAR ecosystem and DAOs.

  2. Engagement Metrics: Analyze the level of interaction during the event - number of questions asked, discussions initiated, and contacts exchanged. This can provide insights into the depth of attendee involvement and interest.

  3. Post-event Surveys: Conduct surveys to gather direct feedback from participants. This could cover their overall experience, learnings from the event, and their perception of the NEAR ecosystem.

  4. Social Media Engagement: Monitor the number of likes, shares, comments, and mentions related to the event on different social media platforms. A spike in these metrics could indicate heightened interest and awareness.

  5. Influencer Engagement: Track the reach, engagement, and sentiment of posts from our KOLs related to the event.

  6. Partnerships Formed: Monitor any collaborations or partnerships that arise as a direct result of networking at the event. This might take a bit longer to materialize but would be a strong indicator of success.

By carefully analyzing these metrics, we can understand the event’s impact and apply these learnings to improve future initiatives.

Estimated Timeline and Milestones :

Week 3 (Mid-May):

  • Announce the finalized event schedule to the registered attendees and the broader community.
  • Ensure all speakers, facilitators, and key participants are adequately briefed and prepared.

Week 4 (Mid to Late May):

  • Conduct final testing of all event-related technology, troubleshoot any issues, and ensure everything is set for a seamless virtual experience.
  • Send out final reminders to attendees, providing details about the event’s schedule, platform, and other necessary instructions.

Week 5 (Late May):

  • Conduct a final push in marketing, leveraging KOLs, social media, and other channels to maximize event attendance.
  • Finalize all event materials, including presentations, handouts, and interactive session resources.
  • Prepare the team for real-time event management, including handling potential tech issues, managing the flow of sessions, and engaging with attendees.

End of May:

  • Complete the final review and make any last-minute adjustments as necessary.
  • Prepare for the event kick-off.

Great metrics here.
However, how do they help onboard more humans to NEAR? I mean by verifying IamHuman and also using NEAR bOS?

I would want you to take a look at this document and align your great proposal.

Hey hi @CoinEasy

Love this proposal…

I am sure you are aware of Near BOS and Iamhuman verification platform that helps verify Humans od Near

These two projects mentioned above are very important to the ecosystem…

If you can iterate your metrics to show how funding this event will translate to attendees to the event are being verified on the IAmhuman verification platform and also onboarded to Near BOS then you have my support

Thanks for your proposal Jaden,

Firstly I’d like to say that I had the opportunity to attend Korea Blockchain Week/Asia Buidl/ETH Seoul last year and meet the team in person.

There are a few things that I believe are very important to highlight and weight properly:

  • Korea is a MASSIVE market. Most people may not realise it as it is somewhat insular, but I was personally blown away by how much untapped potential there is. As a result, since then, NEAR Foundation has invested heavily in a ‘Hub’ focused on Business Development and secured major partnerships. This also has to be seen in context of a very aggressive competitive landscape where all major L1s are trying to gain territory.
  • NEAR is a Diamond sponsor of Asia Buidl and there will be a very heavy presence including Illia, Alex Shevshenko, Matt Lockyer, among others (including myself).

A few questions for the team:

  • Can we make sure that high profile NEAR people such as Illia and Alex Shevshenko attend the event?
  • Can we also invite the Korea Hub team and even partners that they’ve entered into. This would be top tier networking)
  • Are there any overlaps with the official NEAR programming (as Diamond sponsors) or Korea Hub?
  • Can you also confirm that this community event is not receiving any funding from any other source?
  • There is a strong chance that, even if approved, funding will not be available in time for the event. Are there any contingencies around this? (ability to cover funds and be reimbursed afterwards?)

Finally, some general commentary for fellow community members weighing in proposals:

One must be careful not to over index any one metric. Laser focus on a single metric, specially when it is done to advance a personal goal (i.e. IamHuman to NDC) risks dismissing most of the value proposition for the region. The challenge here is that the metric in question may be inadequate for the specific context. (i.e. at a conference when we can expose A LOT of people to NEAR, signing these brand new people to IamHuman is more likely to put them off because the app is so raw and new). Instead, using things such as Keypom that provide an actual smooth onboarding experience is preferred - first impressions matter.

Thank you so much for your support! Miss you! Indeed

Hello,

Thanks for your valuable feedback and questions. Here are the answers to your queries:

High-profile Attendance: We will invite high-profile NEAR people such as Illia and Alex Shevchenko to our event. If they can join. Their presence would be of immense value.

Involving the Korea Hub Team: We fully agree that inviting the Korea Hub team and their partners would enhance the networking opportunities at our event. We’ll make sure tell them attend.

Overlap with NEAR Programming or Korea Hub: We are coordinating closely with the NEAR programming team and Korea Hub to ensure there’s no overlap. Our event will complement the existing programs and provide additional value. This event is fundamentally a community-focused meetup. Our primary goal is to strengthen the NEAR community in South Korea by providing a platform for networking, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

Funding Sources: This community event is solely seeking funding from NEAR. We are not receiving any funding from other sources.

Funding Contingency: We understand that funding might not be available on time. If approved, we’re ready to cover the event costs initially and get reimbursed later when the funds are available.

Regarding your commentary on metrics, we agree that focusing too much on a single metric, especially in a new and diverse region like Korea, might not capture the full impact of the event. We’ll make sure to provide a balanced experience and create a positive first impression of NEAR. For a smoother onboarding experience, we can indeed use tools like Keypom. Our ultimate goal is to expose as many people as possible to NEAR in a way that leaves a lasting positive impression.

We appreciate your feedback and look forward to making this event a great success for NEAR and its community.
