Workshop Scanning ART for 3D NFT

First week:
From Sept 1-8 we invited our artists via Telegram, Twitter and Instagram. And also published a workshop release on Reddit.

We also posted two polls:
- to choose the workshop schedule
- to separate Android/Apple users *for individual download assistance
And answered some technical questions from our future students:
Unfortunately there was one English speaking artist who contacted us interested in the workshop, but our PDF material was in Portuguese. We regret not being able to invite him. In the future we can surely propose the same 3D workshop in English.
Second week:
On September 9th we had our first 2 hours group class: CLASS 1
Followed by the first 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 2
Besides the technical aspects of digitizing physical artworks, Patricia presented 5 cases of possible uses on the Metaverse for the 3D model generated at the workshop:
- virtual exhibition of a physical artwork
- NFT as a digital certificate of a physical artwork
- 3D printing of the scanned model
- creation of digital art from a modified scanned model
- insertion of a digital 3D model at the metaverse (ex: Near Hub Art Festival)
On September 10th we had our second 2 hours group class: CLASS 3
Followed by the second 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 4
Also on September 10th our first 3D scanned object from the workshop was minted as a 3D NFT at Minstbase Techne store: Dragãozinho da Consciência 1 by techne3d.mintbase1.near on Mintbase
On September 13th we had our third 2 hours group class: CLASS 5
After those initial 5 classes we realized the 3D scanning course initially proposed needed to be expanded. Besides the 3D model creation and 3D NFT minting, there was a general interest from the students in what regards other uses for our 3D models in:
- virtual reality
- augmented reality
- mixed and extended realities
Taking in consideration the VR Art Festival being created at fraDAO on NEAR Hub and the development of our virtual museum already in progress, the group decided we should include extra content in the 3D workshop.
After a 5-6 days research period, Patricia purchased the Overly app for 19,99 Euro/month to demonstrate further uses for 3D models and the insertion of our NEAR 3D NFTs on other augmented reality apps.
This purchase will allow us to generate up to 200 3D models for AR projects on a single account, and will be renewed monthly during our workshop duration.
Third week:
On September 19th we had our fourth 2 hours group class: CLASS 6
And the first AR QR codes from our students 3D models for the metaverse were generated:
On the same day we had our third 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 7
On September 21th we had our fourth 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 8
On September 22th we had our fifth 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 9
On September 22th we had our sixth 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 10
On September 22th we had our seventh 1:30 hour individual class: CLASS 11
Fourth week:
Considering the extended content introduced in the 3D workshop, students decided to dedicate themselves for an entire week to their individual projects.
During the fourth week Patricia was available via Telegram and short Jitsi calls, to help each artist individually.
Collective Jitsi meetings will restart in the first week of October when artists will share their 3D art scanning projects (and experience) with the group.

@narau and @frado had several online and physical meetings for art direction and conception of the Shape/structure of the space, described by Frado as a Vision during a Shamanic Experience. The idea for this Main Hall being built in wireframe will help a lot the user experience during the festival, because wireframes don’t have many triangles blocks which makes a lighter file database, for faster VR spaces in NEAR Hubs.
The whale has a white wireframe structure, and the fins have light under them. The three characters were used to give a notion of proportion, they have 1.70 m as the NEAR Hub documentation about avatars suggests. They represent the avatars joining the Art Exhibition inside the whale.
UPDATE: The whale was resized and side openings were made to evidence the entrances.

Design immersive space
In September, @narau made 4 options of bandstands following @Roberta_abinader’s references and started designing the houses that compose the scene. The design of the elements and color palette are still under discussion.
We have some meet to art direction and color palette, we were recording an interview with Roberta, about all the art direction and Esthetical specification of your dream. This audio material will not share here, it’s private, only our team will access.

Which lead us to further research on augmented reality apps.
Expanding the workshop content towards 3D AR was an unexpected path, but proved itself extremely necessary to our fraDAO artists’ creations beyond 3D NFTs.
Looking forward to seeing new and enticing 3D artworks as we gather in our NEAR Hubs museum! And maybe some 3D printed multiple artworks from scanned models, to be sold as NEAR NFTs!

Learnings:
Workshop Scanning Art for 3D NFT:
Mostly due to technological knowledge gaps among the students, we realized the group classes need to be smaller. And there was a higher need for private classes than expected.
So, instead of having a fixed schedule for the classes, such as the same time at the same day of the week we decided to use our Telegram account as a 24h open channel for the workshop info exchanges and knowledge base. Patricia being also reachable at her private Telegram number 24/7.
Like that, we could navigate a more flexible schedule that better suits our female artists (who are at the same time busy moms and workers with unpredictable domestic routines)
The workshop will last longer than initially planned but we believe our artists will gain deeper knowledge, to produce complex 3D artistic experiences for the metaverse.

fraDAO Art Festival at NEAR Hub
We’ve realized that is not possible to reproduce the dreams in exactly realistic ways because there are some limitations within the NEAR Hub metaverse (as in any metaverse) in terms of number of vertices and materials. It means that the objects and the overall scene’s design need to be more simple. So we’ll invest on using image texture to create better looking pieces. Another point is that dreams often don’t make sense and the elements may be too different from each other and create a messy visual. So we’ve decided to create color palettes and come to a consensus of the design style we’ll use in the elements so the scene will look more harmonious.

Workshop Scanning Art for 3D NFT:
The same number of classes initially proposed for the 3D workshop will be given. From the 22 encounters proposed, we have already accomplished 11 in September. The next 11 classes will be held during the month of October. No extra costs involved.
On the other hand, Patricia would like to develop an expanded version of our 3D workshop PDF including AR and VR apps. This document will be given to our current students and also used on future fraDAO 3D workshops. The cost of this extra work will be USD 500.
Patricia has already contacted Ooverly app, asking if it would be possible to bridge our Mintbase 3D NFTs directly to their AR app. Currently only Rarible and Open Sea 3D NFTS can be automatically inserted on the metaverse using Ooverly. We believe it is crucial for our NEAR NFTs to exist beyond our own marketplaces.
Overlyapp asked for a week to implement the direct upload from our Mintbase 3D NFTs to AR spaces:
While that happens, our workshop artists keep minting their 3D NFTs at Mintbase (assisted by @patriciab)
And new VR/AR apps are being downloaded and tested for October classes.

All the steps depend on the finishing of the immersive space design. @Roberta_abinader will send more image references for @narau and discuss the best solution to integrate the scene elements. @narau will produce more 3 models of houses based on these decisions.
