Our Vision

The emergence of Web 3.0 ushers in a transformative era in the digital landscape, characterized by decentralized applications, data ownership, and enhanced user control. This paradigm shift from the centralized nature of Web 2.0 promises to revolutionize how we interact with the internet, creating a more equitable and secure online ecosystem.

In North Africa, with its untapped talent and growing interest in cutting-edge technologies, there exists fertile ground for nurturing the development of Web 3.0. Tunisia, in particular, has emerged as a regional leader in fostering innovation and embracing the latest technological advancements through its evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem. The region’s immense potential to contribute to the global landscape and benefit from economic and social opportunities underscores the need for a vibrant Web 3.0 community in North Africa.

In this context, a group of blockchain enthusiasts, supported by DAR Blockchain, a Web 3.0 hub established in 2018, aims to develop a fully integrated Web 3.0 ecosystem tailored to the North African context. This ecosystem will unite a strong and active community eager to adopt a decentralized approach to collaboration, funding, investing, and sourcing, by creating DAOs based on the NEAR Protocol.

To achieve our vision, we have been working diligently since the beginning of 2023 to test the field and gain knowledge about the pilot initiative. Through a series of three meetups, sensitization campaigns, and partnerships with different entities in the Tunisian borders, we have successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach. Now, we are ready to accelerate the process and launch several initiatives over the summer.

These initiatives include a series of meetups, hackathons, a Web 3.0 startup incubation program, and a training academy. These efforts will help developers and business professionals acquire the necessary skills and actively participate in the community, driving our collective growth.

The philosophy behind the organization of NEAR Meetups:

To cultivate the ecosystem and create a sustainable framework, the initial focus is on attracting individuals and enthusiasts to establish a solid foundation. This aims to generate excitement and motivation, laying the groundwork for their involvement in the North African community. By doing so, we progress further and build the necessary infrastructure for the ecosystem.

Meetups serve as a dynamic platform that fosters learning, collaboration, and innovation among community members. They achieve this through the following objectives:

  • Raising awareness about blockchain and web 3.0 technologies
  • Explain the purpose of the north African Alliance and showcase its plans and projects
  • Sensitize about NEAR PROTOCOL
  • Offering networking opportunity
  • Showcasing local talents
  • Overview of the Meetups:

As part of our efforts to achieve our objectives and attract enthusiastic participants interested in joining the African Alliance and its NEAR-based DAO, we have carefully designed an engaging roadshow meetup series. Over the next three months, we will be hosting a total of three meetups, each followed by a highly anticipated Summit hosted at our strategic partner, ESPRIT University.

These meetups will take place in major Tunisian cities, with one meetup scheduled per month. Each session, lasting between 2 to 3 hours, will delve into an array of captivating topics, including those mentioned above, tailored to educate and inspire our audience.

In addition to the informative sessions, we are committed to fostering meaningful connections and collaboration among participants. Therefore, following each meetup, we will organize dedicated networking events that provide invaluable opportunities for interaction and engagement. These gatherings will create a vibrant community where ideas can flourish, and individuals can find support and inspiration.

Our ultimate aim with these dynamic meetups and networking sessions is to not only educate and inspire, but also to cultivate a strong sense of camaraderie among all participants.

  • Key Objectives of the Meetups:
  • Achieve a total attendance of 150 individuals, with 50 participants per session, ensuring a diverse and engaged audience.
  • Ensure the active presence of 20 entrepreneurs, well known enthusiasts, and influencers at each meetup. Their valuable insights and experiences will contribute to meaningful discussions and networking opportunities.
  • Create 100 NEAR Wallets, providing attendees with secure and user-friendly platforms to actively engage with Web 3.0 technology. By facilitating wallet creation, we empower individuals to explore decentralized applications, participate in decentralized finance, and contribute to the growth of the North African Web 3.0 community.
  • Engage 5 potential project owners, encouraging them to apply for our upcoming incubation program scheduled to start by the end of 2023.

Hello!
We spoke about the timeline for offline events. July is very early to get this funded based on the delay that could set in in getting funded. I would advice this begins August instead.

However, I will allow core contributors of RCWG @Bakaka @kiskesis @Ola snd @jlwaugh to give their opinion about the timeline.

Can this go beyond creating wallets to onboarding via near.social?

Also, seeing possible activities on the NEAR bOS?

We are flexible with the meetups agenda and can adjust the timeline to accommodate the preferences of the Near network. Our goal is to maintain consistency by organizing at least one meetup per month. Ideally, we would like to schedule a meetup in July, but we are open to being agile and adaptable.

I will address each of your questions individually and provide a response for each one:
• Can this go beyond creating wallets to onboarding via Near Social?
Certainly, our focus will extend beyond just creating wallets to encompass the onboarding Near Social.
• Are there any potential activities planned for NEAR BOS?
Regarding NEAR BOS, we are currently exploring the possibility of incorporating it into an upcoming summit in collaboration with Esprit University. One of the proposed ideas is to organize a hackathon specifically for NEAR BOS. We believe this is a valuable opportunity to showcase its capabilities and engage participants in building innovative solutions. We would be happy to discuss and further develop this concept together in cooperation with our partners.

Projects presented on NEAR Horizon can be good too.

Please, work on the timeline of the events as we need to provide funding before the event dates.

Thank you for your proposal and the wonderful job done by Web 3.0 NAA in educating communities about Web 3.

Thoughts and Suggestions:

  • You submitted a fund request in your first forum post in April Forum post , and there have been so many comments, including mine, about your initiative vision that we are all happy to support you and with some suggestions and thoughts from other MDAO council members, especially one by AVB.

  • From @satojandro “I am confused between the relationship between ‘North Africa Blockchain/Hub’ and Near North Africa’. As I understand it, North Africa Blockchain is an ecosystem-agnostic group working to grow Web3 in the region.” His thoughts and suggestions are important to go through again with your team in order to refine your strategies and processes. NB: am not saying your current process is wrong.

This concern remains valid, which leads me to my question too.

  • Are you looking for funding for your initiative in the form of a grant to host the events? Because there is nothing like Near written in your name across all of your platforms and handle names as a Near representative for North Africa. Correct me if am wrong

  • The RCWG-DAO explicitly states that newly established communities must build for at least three months and learn about the ecosystem before submitting any proposal, which includes participating in community calls to learn more about the ecosystem and what is going on and contributing to the ecosystem’s growth in your newly formed community social groups. You don’t have one because your request is more of a grant request for web3 NAC engagements and has nothing to do with the Near North African Community, which doesn’t exist.

Suggestions:

  • If you want to be a part of and recognized as a Near Regional Community, build a community focused on Near Protocol Ecosystem products, activities, and services.

  • My POV, if possible, change the names of all your social accounts to include the word “Near.” if you want it to be recognized as Near North Africa,

  • Even without funding, posting about ecosystem trends at least once a week in your groups is not difficult, and this increases engagement and user growths, We encourage increasing the number of organic users in your current groups and handles.

  • We all understand how difficult and time-consuming it is to build a community, that is why we are always willing to support the newly community, not just with funds where needed.

At this stage, I won’t support this proposal.

Am happy to have a call and discuss the way forward to see how to align.

Thank you
