Hello Community!
It was a journey that started here and we are back to present a detailed report of all that happened at KANO IS BOS.
First, we created an X account to help us share official information with the ecosystem and the wider community out there. Also, a near.social account to kickstart all on-chain activities related to the event. On both handles, we together with attendees of the event used #KanoIsBOS to make the event.
Partnerships with Shardog and Meteor Wallet made it possible for us to onboard about 700 new members into the ecosystem. With Shardog, we created NFTs that attendees would claim to get a meal and merch. This helped get the newbies to interact with an ecosystem project. We pulled out about 516 transactions as verified by the Shardog team.
WHY DID WE INVITE OTHER SPEAKERS?
To capture a wide audience at the event, we used popular locals of Kano land who are into blockchain to help us get an audience of many. With the turnout of the event, this strategy worked well.
PROJECTS BUILT DURING THE HACKATHON
We had developers numbering 40 who attended the event to build on BOS. Due to the little challenge which needs proper tutoring to get things done right on BOS, three projects/teams were not captured since they built their solutions on the local host and couldn’t integrate on BOS before the time of the hackathon elapsed. Above all, attached are the products built on BOS due to the event. KANO IS BOS PROJECTS FEEDBACK.docx - Google Docs
Also, after due diligence, the following projects emerged winners with the following criteria. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X7504zyxSiS2DebyeliVcAn8JdJDOnwr0t5vvgb5B8g/edit#heading=h.gjdgxs
-
More than the landing page built on BOS
-
Community-centred dApp that will be usable by Africans
Rewards for the products had a tweaked based on the quality delivered.
First, second and third got their rewards as found in the proposal. However, the fourth, Fifth and Sixth got $100 honorary rewards since what they submitted was more of a landing page on BOS and not some important aspect of their product.
The remaining funds were used as the Gas fee for attendees at the event through the nearhausa.near wallet worth $250.
Also, we performed some tasks during the event in which the winner’s reward was $150.
All other transactions can be tracked on Igboze_builder.near
CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED.
-
During the event, the Shardog and IamHuman links broke and did not work when the traffic of people was much. This resulted in stopping the process to allow people to gain entry into the hall for the activities to go on smoothly.
-
Many of the developers were hearing about BOS for the first time and could not do much
-
We created a group with all the Devs that joined the hackathon to keep a weekly dev session with them to aid them in continuing to build their solutions
SOLUTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
- we will make the workshop periods longer for the future hackathon. Say a week or more to allow the devs to learn more about BOS as they build their solutions.
- Creation of an African DEV community focused on NEAR with constant tutoring.

Special thanks to the @Alphaflex (Zubair)[Zubair (zubairweb3.near) | Near Social]. Our able OG @Bakaka who was ever present and made sure things went well. The success of this event is much hooked on the fact that your heart for the ecosystem is pure.
Also, thanks to @marketingdao-council for believing in our team to achieve this success. All the Devs are super grateful for the opportunity to hack and would want to come back again.
