Could you provide the program for your university events? Who will be the speakers and mentors for the hackathon? Please, provide their experience and examples of their presentations/existing projects and apps on NEAR.

Are you sure this dapp / presentation is about NEAR?

Thanks for the questions @vadim_hom vadim_hom . That presentation was basically on the rudiments of smart contracts development, and they were taught in May 2023. Please kindly note that they are not for the Open Web Tour.

In what way am I specifically intended to support with this event? Just trying to be clear since I do not remember previous discussions about it.

Hi @chloe, thank you for your question.

Your support will be related to Near BOS as discussed with you on telegram some months ago

Is there a planned time for this event to run?

I request access to the team doc.

For the objectives and KPIs, is there a plan to track these on chain? Are there on chain metrics from previous events that can be shared (as well as potential retention rates from those events?)

The milestones don’t seem to be measurable tasks to be completed? Seems more like a budget, it would be great to see milestones attached to the proposal for it to be evaluated.

I feel uncomfortable being added to a proposal for an event I have never firmly agreed to engage with. I’d suggest getting formal approval from potential instructors before adding them to a proposal for funding.

Hi Chloe, just to make this clear, you were not added to the proposal nor being part of the team member.

Some of the names included were to highlight our point of contact in Near to Vlad. The list included confirmed and tentative speakers, tutors, mentors (which is why you were mentioned).
Apologies for any confusion.

  • Yes. Estimated time run is 3 - 4 months.

For the objectives and KPIs, is there a plan to track these on chain?

Yes of course. We intend to build projects on Near from this workshop and also onboard projects with the hackathon.

NDC has not funded any of our events. However, our previous events were always based on chain metrics through, building on Near, wallet activation, usage of dapps, etc. Check out some of our onchain metric from previous events below:

  • We co-organized web fusion Lagos and Dapps over Apps members built Polldart on Near BOS. Some other project built on Near BOS can be found here
    • l>100 post about the event on Near social with hashtag #PAINTANDCREATE
      Near Social

The milestones don’t seem to be measurable tasks to be completed? Seems more like a budget, it would be great to see milestones attached to the proposal for it to be evaluated.

Measurable task can be found in the KPI & deliverables. The milestone just spitted the entire projects into bits.

Kindly check out the Overall Milestone/Deliverables quoted below:

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Train a minimum of 160+ students on how to build on the blockchain using Near SDK, BOS.
  • Organize 3-4 months intensive workshop in 3 major universities.
  • Organize hackathon among developers and projects founders in 3 major institutions.
  • Workshop and hackathon will cut across solutions in chain abstractions, zero knowledge proof and other immediate real life problems.
  • 24 hours support for participants of our workshop

  • Establish Near blockchain clubs in 3 major institutions.
  • Onboard 50+ web 2 developers to Near.
  • Content creation and documentation from our workshop will be provided for future reference and distribution.

I hope I was able to clarify with the above informations. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to the success of this project.

Cheers.

So how were they funded?

Generally, I feel like it would be more efficient to run one of these events first to see how it went and then take feedback to engage with the other universities. This also allows for HoM to evaluate more efficiently. Either way, I feel as though an events DAO would be better situated to handle a request like this. Seems like there should also be some support from this events DAO to ensure proposals are put together efficiently and there is a clear distinction between:

  • KPIs
  • Budget
  • Milestones

Hi Chloe,

So how were they funded?

It was funded by NF.

I feel like it would be more efficient to run one of these events first to see how it went and then take feedback to engage with the other universities.

That’s exactly our plan: to give report to HOM after each university. Hence why we arranged our activities into milestones/stages.

The KPI above is an efficient way to measure success after this program. I broke down the deliverables into bits, i.e. according to each tour.

Activities broken into milestones:

Milestone 1 (Institution 1)

  • Organize a workshop in the University of Lagos for 150+ participants.

  • Participants from the workshop will build & launch at least 3 projects on Near.

  • Reach 50% of developers in this region not limited to the University

  • Event will target developers and project founders in this region

  • Train participants on how to build with Near SDK & BOS.

  • Organize a hackathon in this institution that focuses on building apps that solve real-life problems.

  • Workshop and hackathon will cut across solutions in chain abstractions, zero knowledge proof and other immediate real-life problems

  • Build projects on Near up to TestNet, mainnet or MVP stage.

  • Establish a Near blockchain club in this institution that will continue to operate with/without funding.

  • Curriculum creation and distribution for future use

Milestone 2 (Institution 2)

  • Organize a workshop in Yaba College of technology for 150+ participants.

  • Reach 50% of developers in this region not limited to the University

  • Train participants on how to build with Near SDK & BOS.

  • Organize a hackathon in this institution that focuses on building apps that solve real-life problems.

  • Workshop and hackathon will cut across solutions in chain abstractions, zero knowledge proof and other immediate real-life problems

  • Build projects on Near up to testnet, mainnet or MVP stage.

  • Establish a Near blockchain club in this institution that will continue to operate with/without funding.

  • Curriculum creation and distribution for future use

Milestone 3 (Institution 3)

  • Organize a workshop in the Lagos state University for 150+ participants.

  • Participants from the workshop will build & launch at least 3 projects on Near.

  • Reach 50% of developers in this region not limited to the University

  • Curriculum will be created based on the proficiency level of participants. I.e; beginners curriculum will be different

Milestone 4: (Hackathon)

  • Organize a hackathon among developers and project founders in 3 major institutions. Prize up to $2,000+
  • Hackathon will be open to both new and existing projects.
  • Workshop and hackathon will cut across solutions in chain abstractions, zero knowledge proof and other immediate real-life problems

Our goal is to tour major institutions and cities in Africa, starting with Nigeria, onboard and train a minimum of 60% of 85,000% developers & founders Nigeria on how to utilize Near’s blockchain infrastructure.

Thank you for your support and impact to Near. :hibiscus:

Thanks for the additional details. Personally, I’d like to see one of these events go well, before approving funding for 3 of them.

Currently it seems like the scope is too large, and it would be difficult to assess the impact of each of these events in their current format.

I know DevHub has near campus activities, so I’d also suggested communicating with them on resources that could be used if this hasn’t been done already.

Thanks @chloe .

We are willing to kickstart with one of the events before proceeding to others.

That will be milestone: $3,200. Thanks for your time and support.
