Goodday everyone,

  1. The month of December was productive as we were able to reach out to student crypto-communities in Nigeria one of which was an already established Active University community called Binance Buk, in order to teach what nearprotocol is all about and including what the open web entails we held a webinar which saw more than 68 unique attendees and up to 38 staying to the end of a 1hr 30mins event, it was very interactive as the students ask questions related to been validators, what open web is and how to stake on near wallet!. Here is a screenshot of live attendees during the meeting.

    We also got lot of interested students who opened near wallets and funded it with various amounts of near so that they can enjoy the benefit of staking NEAR.
    This was handled by myself, Khadija Ibrahim and Muhammed Auwal, who are all core members of the guild

  2. we were able interact with the wider Nigeria community through the use of various social media through the use of memes, infograph and videos using popular platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn etc.

  3. Another accomplishment the whole guild made in December 2020 was to create the First ever Nigeria related content in relation to nearprotocol which is currently number 1 top search on Google, this was very exciting as we could see the impart we were making in educating not only Nigeria but Africa as a whole.

This Articles and the whole idea though was a team effort, special thanks to this guild members, victory oluwatola, Muhammed Auwal, Paul Oguntola, evelyn sample for organizing the whole ideas into solid piece.

  1. The Articles created were also translated into native languages common in Nigeria which included, Igbo, Yoruba and hausa and placed on various social media so as to reach out to those who can’t speak or Understand English.

  2. Our telegram and Twitter page are now in full operation with an Instagram account opening this month and we are increasing in number.

The month of January we plan to increase our plain field as we would interact with lots of crypto-related communities and lots more.

Thanks for sharing this with us. Super interesting! So glad that the workshop went really well. Can you share your plans on how we can follow up with the participants beyond the workshop?

This is really interesting! With the growth of crypto and blockchain in Nigeria, it’s massive that we could get an article to #1 in the whole of Africa. Kudos to you and the entire team.

What would you say are some of the main challenges in setting up a community there? I’m interested to know this because I’d imagine that these challenges might be very different across various countries.

Follow up isn’t really a problem as we have a telegram group were we invite those interested in participating in nearprotocol ecosystem and want to know more about NEAR can join freely, our Twitter account already set up but we still have some issues which would be resolved this month

It’s been challenging because despite the increase adoption of cryptocurrency in Africa especially Nigeria the ideology and tech behind cryptocurrency as a whole is grossly misunderstood.

  1. Nigerians are a financially conservative people and many find digital finance and other forms of fintech not acceptable so we are really trying our best to push out contents to reputable crypto and non-crypto blogging site to create massive awareness.
  1. limited resources has been one of our major concern as to push contents into circulation really is quite expensive. So making resources available could also play a big role in raising awareness as well as making the impact felt all over the country, and as we are only starting to work with Near has a guild with more resources from Near coming into the Near protocol kano Guild we will surely make that impact felt in time to come not only in Nigeria but Africa as plans have already been drawn up which could be seen in our December Activities
