Summary
February was a game-changing month for NEAR and the whole blockchain / crypto ecosystem. I can’t believe it has been over a month since this community update . Going forward, I’ll make sure to do these on a weekly basis to summarize and help connect dots.
Recently, @tiffanygyj and @yifang started posting weekly updates from the perspective of NEAR Collective, and we hope others in the community give additional insights.

8 shards can now produce 5x TPS of a single shard! It is not exactly linear sharding, but quite close This closes one of our Q1 goals 2 months ahead of schedule.
Significantly dropped CPU consumption, in some cases from 8 full cores to 1 full core. This was achieved by finding a bug in actix 0.9 and upgrading away from it;

The weekly Friday update from the Bridge Working Group:
This week, we were working on fixing the existing deployments, creating the roadmap for Q1 and participating in multiple discussions, including the realistic bridge protocol change and storage costs update .
Next week, we are planning to finalise a step-by-step tutorial on using the bridge with ERC-20, updating our maintenance suite (knowledge bases, procedures), continuing working on bridge 2.0 and doing some clean ups in the repository.

This week, we have fixed Ropsten and Rinkeby deployments, introduced monitoring dashboard, fixed issues (#475 , FE#80 ), were cleaning the issues in the repos, guided the NFT standard discussion.
Next week, we are planning to finalise a step-by-step tutorial on using the bridge with ERC-20, continuing working on bridge 2.0, prepare the upgradability discussion for the forum and finishing the clean ups in the repository.

This week, we delivered step-by-step CLI guide and frontend with working transfers to NEAR and back. We also solved a bug with Ropsten deployment , were working on #467 and #462 , were cleaning the issues in the repos, and were developing the bridge 2.0.

This week, we worked on a bunch of upgradability & testing related topics (eth-connector , token-connector ), fixed some bugs in the FE (#113 , #102 ), refactored FE code to use the library , were cleaning the issues in the repos, set the alerts, and were developing the bridge 2.0.

EVM on NEAR
February 5
The weekly Friday update from the EVM Working Group:
This week, we recorded two short EVM tutorial videos, recruited more developers, and took significant architectural decisions that will enable us to iterate faster and deliver the EVM sooner.
Next week, we are planning to begin implementing nETH as the base token, begin developing a new benchmarking tool, and continue work on the architectural changes and EVM upgrade begun this week.

This week, we hired and onboarded an additional developer, made great progress on a new EVM stress-testing tool, got started on implementing nETH as the base token, and continued work on the architectural changes and EVM upgrade begun last week.

This week, we made good progress on the ETH connector, finished contract runtime API additions to support the EVM contract, upgraded the EVM contract to the latest upstream VM version, and continued work on the EVM Bully stress-testing tool.
