Hey everyone. If you have just noticed me come out of the woodworks these past few weeks on certain NEAR social media accounts it’s due to just arriving to the NEARverse and I’m very elated that I took the time to research what NEAR protocol has to offer. I’m fairly new to the crypto world to the point of 1.5 years ago I didn’t understand Blockchain but I knew of only a select few cryptocurrencies until I wanted to find select avenues of finance thanks to being locked up in my home when the pandemic was went after the global economy. I slowly noticed that the world was never going to be the same when I seen more societies withdrawing from the use of physical money and moving into the digital. This reminded me when I once worked as a customer service specialist for a bank who made the decision to take out their brick and mortar banks to go fully digital. After a year of conversing and investigating Crypto Twitter, researching and investing in select digital assets I decided to see what other social media that allowed the community to expand more or be more personal and helpful along the way. I downloaded Telegram and then Discord and also Reddit but didn’t use the later too much until I started to volunteer to help upcoming projects stay connected to the hundreds to thousands of people joining daily or weekly. I’m always the type of person who has the mindset to give proper and thorough information in what I’m heavily passionate about so I felt If I was aware of something my fellow community members lacked in knowledge or understanding it was my duty to quickly find the solution. Fellow community members of those projects even sent messages to me for guidance or questions and thought I was a moderator for the projects; even stating I should look into being one as well as look into crypto marketing. So it made me more passionate to work in the Blockchain industry especially when I’m trying to complete a degree in Computer and Network Security. It quite ironic how I went into sales/customer service/help desk technician for a resume builder but it helped me be more communicative with individuals to help those needed assistance in DEFI products. Please be patient with my rant so being in inquisitive on another innovative project I decided to finally invest in NEAR. I had the token on my watchlist but I never made the effort to use the asset. I wanted to have store my tokens away from Central exchanges so I found out that there was an Official Near Wallet that was very efficient with a great UI and UX with a staking feature. Creating my wallet was a breeze, I staked and unstaked to see how the process went as well swapped in Ref Finance. I was ecstatic with my experience and then I found out about Aurora and the Rainbow Bridge to NEAR Protocol and Ethereum. Everything was great until I found out I need some ETH for gas and I was concerned that this part of activating the Aurora address would push people away from entering Aurora since an Ethereum TX fee can fluctuate really high. I decided to ask around on the official Telegram and luckily I received quick and good news from the moderators that it was just a one time ETH transfer that was needed. The correspondence was a breath of fresh air because I didn’t feel any attitudes or ignorance from the moderators. I decided to join the NEAR Discord and I was welcomed with open arms by @Benz_Near who was very personable and knowledgeable. If you want to me better I will tell you that I’m very investigative and passionate about something and I seen that energy in him. I wanted to see if there were opportunities in the ecosystem and luckily there were job postings in the jobs channel. After scrolling up I found @Benz_Near post about Community Squad needing additional moderators for a new Concierge Initiative and I applied instantly. A few days later I received an email from @jcatnear, set up an interview with @Jessica and soon found out I was chosen for this 1 week immersion to be a Community Moderator. I truly appreciate you two allowing me to be a part of this opportunity.
Ok now for my Immersion Analysis.
Once joining the Near Moderators Telegram I was acquainted with my fellow M.O.D. (Moderators on Duty). They were all down to earth and very helpful when I had any questions. At first I was hesitant to take on such an important responsibility for a remarkable project as NEAR so I decided to first observe how the other moderators conducted their assistance to the channels. After a while I went all in especially in Discord which I felt had the most issues relayed from community members. My tasks were to direct community members to specific guides if they had questions/issues relating to the NEAR Wallet, DEFI projects, transferring tokens via Rainbow Bridge, reporting or banning spammers/scammers, deleting post that’s unrelated to NEAR, as well as giving up to date marketing posts related to NEAR Protocol.
I came into moderating at the right time since the first phase of Sharding Integration aka Simple Nightshade was launched which was a great feat for NEAR but this also cause issues on node upgrades from heavily utilized central exchanges like Binance or Crypto.com. This unfortunately affected withdrawals and deposits of NEAR which was voiced on Telegram, Discord and Reddit nonstop but with an amazing team we have eased down the irritation from investors by giving alternative options to make them satisfied until maintenance ended to allow transfers to and from their favorite exchanges. That task was fairly comfortable to do but then there were cases of individuals either sending tokens to the wrong chain or when the CEX was still unavailable for deposits which caused the member to lose their tokens. I was both sympathetic and empathetic towards each person I encountered which they appreciated while conversing with them. The second biggest issue that community members faced related to Aurora and the Rainbow Bridge. On the NEAR Reddit I posted the link to a how to guide on transferring tokens from Ethereum to Aurora that I found online just in case anyone assistance. The members unfortunately wasn’t fully aware of the latest timeline that tokens would finally be bridged or they didn’t follow the last step to initiate the deposit into their designated address. At first I wasn’t either but after digging through the
FAQ and conversing with great teammates I was able to give the the perfect solution to the members. The third biggest issue was regarding recovering their NEAR wallets. With this situation the problem may have an easy remedy like clearing their cache or using a different browser but in other cases we requested the member in discord to create a ticket so other M.O.D. and myself could be more private and tactful with their case. If we weren’t successful with a quick solution we relayed the link for Zendesk to resolve the problem.
Through this immersion I was most active in discord but I used Telegram and decided to push myself to inform the Reddit Community on upcoming partnerships or launches from projects from the ecosystem. On Reddit I also gave upvotes to other posts, monitored any spammers, and troubleshooted any issues regarding withdrawals and deposits.
I just want to say that I’m very fortunate to have worked with very caring and intellectual individuals in an outstanding project. Everyone who was a part of my journey thus far as Community Moderator many thanks and blessings to you all!
