[Event Report] KAPiTAL NEAR NFT Meetup Berlin

KAPiTAL NEAR NFT Meetup

We are happy to report for the event we hosted here in Berlin, it was fun and inspiring.

Aim
We want to introduce artists to the NEAR protocol and for them to get started making NFTs with NEAR and then showcase them on the KAPiTAL Mintbase gallery. We want to facilitate a forum for Q and discussions and in general see how we can support them in the NEAR NFT adventure.

Description
KAPiTAL Guild hosted a KAPiTAL NFT Stammtisch meetup (the German word for discussion group) on Thursday the 12th of January in Berlin, which is to take place monthly. We invite artists from our network (over 400), our meetup group and our general followers on social media. We also invited a NEAR community member to teach and share knowledge about how to use NFTs and to answer questions. We are aiming at it being a semi casual conversational forum where people feel comfortable to ask any type of questions. Our Near meetup is built on an artist project where we invite artists to do NFTs and sell them in our Mintbase gallery. The January Stammtisch is built on two test meetings in November and December 2021 with a total of 25 people attending. The forthcoming monthly Stammtisches are aimed both to harbour questions and further developments on this project and to reach out to new people to become members of our NEAR community. We want to have both artists with NFT experience and NEAR contributors at the Stammtisch to educate and inspire others how to contribute to the NEAR community and to develop the NFT art scene.

How it Went

We had 4 attendees (3 in person and 1 online). With 33 RSVPs and a reach over 1.000 on our social media we gather that people are scared to go out due to the current Covid19 situation in Berlin. We had advertised an online participation option, but since this is all new people to onboarding the project, it was hard to get people to join this month. However, the event was very successful with all attendees creating wallets and getting on boarded to the NEAR NFT community. The evening started with getting wallets, followed by questions of the attending people. These were answered by Lenara Verle, who joined us online.

The evening was very inspiring with interesting ideas and questions. KAPiTAL is now in collaboration with an independent filmmaker about creating a fundraiser on the KAPiTAL Mintbase platform using NEAR NFTs. This has strong potential to develop into another research project on how NFTs work as a fundraiser event and community builder.

We would like to improve our next Stammtisch with the following elements:
NEAR wallets pre-created with QR code to hand out
A presentation by an artist is using NFTs in their work or a NEAR contributor
Stronger marketing for online attendance

Many thanks to @lenara and @jlwaugh for making this adventure possible for us. We are looking forward to hosting this again next month and we are already working on how to improve and build our event.

See you in February!
