With NEARCON fast approaching and many proposals requesting funding for initiatives related to the conference, we are updating our process for proposals going forward as follows:
If you are planning on submitting a proposal to the MarketingDAO related to NEARCON (Sept. 11-14, 2022, Lisbon), please post it on the Forum by 11:59PM GMT 8/8/22. Be sure to tag us. That’s this coming Monday.
After the deadline, we will evaluate all proposals at the same time. This includes any proposals currently open on the Forum. Yes, this is an update in medias res – in a perfect world, we would have used this approach from the beginning to evaluate proposals. We are not operating in a perfect system, but we are aiming to up-level the process so that we can ensure the Community funding allocated to NEARCON attendance from the MarketingDAO provides the best value to the expansion of the NEAR ecosystem as possible.
We believe this is the best way to make those, often tough, decisions and also process the proposals in a timely manner that allows for those approved to actually receive funding in advance of the event itself. A few things to note:
- The deadline is 11:59PM GMT 8/8/22
- Your proposal MUST include clearly outlined metrics for success that you aim to achieve with attendance. If these are not present, your proposal may be closed.
- You must demonstrate and explain why your attendance is of such value to the COMMUNITY that it merits funding. We cannot fund everyone to attend. How will you help NEAR reach its growth goals in the future?
- We are strongly inclined to prioritize proposals demonstrating financial need or hardship that would result in an inability to attend without funding. While this is not a hard and fast requirement, note that it is important.
- Note that the MarketingDAO cannot be responsible for fluctuations in travel costs, last-minute price increases due to the timing of payouts, changes in the price of NEAR, whether or not you can find a hotel that costs the same as what is proposed in your proposal. That is not our responsibility. If funded, it is your responsibility to use the funds to get to NEARCON and work toward the metrics you outline in your proposal.
- Note that, while payout can happen more quickly, it is POSSIBLE for it to take up to 5 weeks to receive funding from the time of posting on the FORUM. Consider whether that reality around timing is something that will allow you to attend NEARCON if your funding request is approved.
