PROPOSAL:

NearBooks DAO will be a publishing arm of NEAR. It will publish books, content on a website. (This category includes books, stories, articles, and anthologies written by NEAR members and others from outside the Near Ecosystem.

  1. We have many writers and poets here who have written books and poems, many of which have lately been submitted to an ongoing bounty. We’ll promote and onboard such talented people to the community and other aspiring artists.
  2. We will have our store on Paras/Mintbase where we can have these books, magazines minted.
  3. The main reason for doing this is that we have phygital access (a buyer can buy the nft and will get a physical book sent out)

How this works:

Here comes the fun fun of working on this project. Since I am already active in this space of books and content publishing, I have access to Amazon Sellers, [https://www.barnesandnoble.com] etc so I can get any books on their system. So a buyer will buy a NFT and we will ship the physical copy of the book to the address. This exclusive offer will be available to the first 100 buyers only. This will create a portal for the new web3 of interested folks to join the NEAR ecosystem. They can buy physical copies and will get direct access to the NFTs and vice-versa.

I have a team of my own and I can manage the entire plan and execution. I have spoken to other publishers as well, but that will come later as we move ahead.

By July 2023, we will have onboarded 400 new people and have a total of 1200+ people in the near ecosystem (buyers, lookers, people who want to have a basic understanding of how it works, and people who want to try buying NFTs).

Even though our previous proposal was not accepted by NEAR we were still working and building our community, Community Members cannot be left to wander away. Will attach the link of the work that was done and the books published by PaperlessDAO

PaperlessDAO conducted 15 writing contests on DrenchedThoughts platform every alternate days in Febuary for Valentine’s Day and Woman’s Day contest was held in March. We had over 200 submissions and out of which 3 best writers were awarded. The other best submissions from each contest were selected for each book. These books will be put on Amazon Kindle for sale.

As a publisher, I understand that curating and putting the works of over 100 writers together is a tedious task. You have done a good job here.

Thanks for your proposal and the consistency of your work,

We’ve entered an interesting time in crypto - you will hear many people describe ideas such as the one above. The vision is there, the direction is correct, but there are always major questions around technical feasibility (User Experience, Scalability, Affordability).

NEAR solves this. I know this. I don’t know if the Paperless DAO knows this (yet), and if I were to proceed with funding this I would like to see:

  1. More details around the technical implementation. Happy to chat about the ways in which Keypom can be integrated to do amazing, smooth linkdrops - seamless flows that can be embedded into your custom branded experience - or how Meta Transactions and Zero balance accounts can be used to remove any friction from users (I imagine these are non-technical crowds).
  2. Paperless DAO needs to become a NEAR ambassador being able to explain how they’ve used the tech. This could not be built anywhere else, let’s show off the tech with pride and confidence. Essentially, Paperless DAO becomes a distribution channel to show others what can be done on NEAR - you’ve got a niche, experience, users, we provide tech stack, now let’s make sure the entire world knows about it so we can attract more users (to your product) and more builders (inspired by P DAO, wanting to leverage the same tools in their own ways).

Our community is made up of a bunch of creative people - writers, poets, and aspiring writers. We’re trying to connect creativity with technology and that’s where Near comes in. Our team has been working hard to promote the Near Ecosystem and get people involved.

I’m excited to check out the Keypom App and see how it can help us out. By the way, we’ve got a community meeting coming up on May 15th. It’s a quarterly thing where I’ll be talking about the tech stack and how we can all benefit from it. Plus, I’ll be sharing some ideas on how we can promote NEAR.

Hi @JakieRodz thanks for the proposal. I understand what you’re aiming to do, but I have concerns about the execution of the project, including:

  • When I go to the Amazon links you shared, the books have no author profile, reviews or supporting information that would make me want to purchase them. They don’t look “real” compared to typical Amazon or Kindle books. I don’t think that is creating positive brand awareness for NEAR.
  • Similarly, the formatting and book cover art to me doesn’t look professional. I don’t mean to be harsh, but if we are going to allocate community funds to a project associated with NEAR, the output needs to be reasonably professional looking or it doesn’t created a positive return to the NEAR ecosystem.
  • You mention community and many writers involved in your initiative – are there links to social media or other evidence that you can show so we can see the community and understand more about it?
  • It’s unclear to me what books your first 100 participants will be buying NFTs and also getting the physical copy? Are they only the books that you have published digitally? If so, how do you plan to market these books, to what audience, etc.? Do the authors of the books help with marketing?
  • In terms of shipping books, is this a global initiative or focused on a specific region?
  • I don’t see any public/visible evidence of this initiative promoting or educating people about NEAR. I would need to see that to be able to support the proposal.

Given the questions and concerns above, I can’t support this proposal as written. I terms of a way forward, I would recommend professionalizing the project and updating us with links, examples or evidence of the community and its alignment with NEAR.

Hi @JakieRodz thankyou for your proposal. I note that you have submitted a similar proposal earlier this year, and unfortunately i do not see sufficient alignment in this proposal with NEAR goals for me to support.

@so608, I appreciate your inquiries and intended to incorporate them into my upcoming proposal.

To shed some light on Amazon’s book-selling models, there are two options available. The first is a basic listing, while the second, which we are currently discussing, provides more detailed information such as book images, branding services, and so on. Our plan is to adopt this model for our personal account and obtain a publisher account with Paperless NEAR and our brand.

We faced budget constraints while designing most of our book covers, and as a result, we used artwork created by our community members who are also authors. Our editorial team opted to use these images.

Since our books have multiple contributing authors and poets, it would be unjust to include individual names on the cover. In the past, we used to include the editor’s name, but now we mention “Various Authors/Poets.”

Our books are presently available as ebooks, but in Phase 2, they will be available physically and can be ordered worldwide. To reach more readers, the authors will assist us in promoting the books and NEAR by sharing updates, pre-orders, and sales on social media.

I have major plans in getting publishing under NEAR as a domain, as I have expertise in this field for over last 7years. I will be sharing a detailed proposal on how it will benefit the NEAR Ecosystem and help in community building.

I began working on PaperlessDAO in 2021 and since then, we have successfully brought on board 200 authors and poets. Our main goal has been to promote NEAR within the community by utilizing publishing as a medium. As a result, most of the works have been published.

In Phase-2, we plan to collaborate with authors and poets to publish their solo books under NEAR. This will help us create a strong ecosystem here. Whenever authors share their works, they tag us, and we get a better reach.

I had submitted a proposal earlier, but unfortunately, we did not receive any support, grants or funds. Nevertheless, we have continued to pursue our mission. As our reach expands, there will be more people joining the ecosystem, creating wallets, engaging, and playing various roles within the ecosystem. This will ultimately align with NEAR’s mission.
