Build With NEAR - An educational video series on NEAR

Hello everyone,

Inspired by my NCD journey, I have started working on a series of NEAR Tutorials where I would teach folks to build with NEAR. I would be covering various topics like Smart Contract Walkthrough, Writing your own Smart Contracts using Assembly Script, NFTs on NEAR, DAOs on NEAR etc.

I had created a series of 3 youtube videos which can be found here: Build With NEAR - Part 1 - YouTube
which I have optimized to split into 3 modules and chapters inside each of these modules for a better learner experience.
With each of the chapters, I am building 3 MCQs as a means to check the user’s understanding of the subject and give them a bit of push to research some docs on their own as well :).

I have so far completed 1 Module, which consists of 4 chapters titled as follows:
Chapter1: Introduction and Setting up the NEAR SDK
Chapter 2: A sneak peek into the Contract Imports
Chapter3: A NEAR AssemblyScript Contract Walkthrough
Chapter 4: A NEAR AssemblyScript Contract Deployment

You can find the videos of the 4 chapters and the MCQ file in the drive.

Module 2 is ready post-editing and available for comments.

It consists of 3 chapters:
Chapter 1: Use case introduction and Writing your first class
Chapter 2: Functions - Creating and Joining a game
Chapter 3: Functions - Ending a game and Payout
Each chapter comes with its own set of MCQs.

Quick update:
Module 3 is ready post-editing and available for comments.

It consists of 3 chapters:
Chapter 1: Setting up and deploying the smart contract
Chapter 2: Functions - Calling them from the CLI
Chapter 3: Unit testing
Each chapter comes with its own set of MCQs.

Will be posting more updates as the next couple of modules keep coming in.
Please share any topics of interest, suggestions regarding videos, or ways to improve on this mini passion project of mine

Awesome work, @gyan0890!

The Drive link seems to be missing

@amgando & @chloe might have ideas for more videos, but you’re probably in touch with them already

@doriannear & @VideoDon- do you have any feedback or tips for Gyan from a content or video POV

This is awesome @gyan0890. Going to be watching through these today and will definitely be in touch about ideas for videos if I have them :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thank you Chloe. I have two more modules that I have already shot, so those would be updated soon. Editing is taking unusually longer than shooting, so  ! Looking forward to your ideas though

Thank you for pointing it out @shreyas ! Seems like it didn’t get updated when I posted :open_mouth: .Have updated it now.

I love the passion project @gyan0890 !! Your google slides are trendy as heck and really pull me into the video lol. First and foremost, the video is amazing and you do so well presenting yourself. Keep going! The blockchain space desperately needs more girls making videos

Something to think about is that you only have the first 5 seconds of your video to genuinely capture your audiences attention. If you cant grab their attention within the first 5 seconds, they are going to move onto another video. So this is the perfect time to use everything you’ve got to gain their attention! Buzz words, something that sounds click baitey but that is actually true, etc.

I reallyyyy liked this part of your video, “3:52-4:10 Covalent and NFTs: Demystifying NFTs(DEMO) - YouTube” because of the way you said “voila” & because I didn’t know that all you needed was 3 elements of meta data in order to sell a purchased NFT in other market places!! Your fun personality really shined through for me  I personally would use that as your intro to your video & layer music underneath it, and have some quick edits & zoom ins to get the viewers attention & then dive right into your video. The shorter the videos are, and the more fun ya make them, the better.

Look at the analytics in youtube for your videos & look to see the % of people still watching after 1 minute of the video, you’ll be surprised to see the data. At least 25% stop watching </3

Some more nitty gritty requests on my end that aren’t necessary, but that I like after years of making videos would be:

  • to screen record in 1080p or 4k “if ya can” because I love watching them in full resolution
  • Blue Yeti microphone for crispy clear audio
  • Add in funny clips from youtube
  • google “Creative common rights” to more clearly understand how to utilize other video clips to enhance your videos. Say you’re talking about a NEAR wallet, when appropriate, I would put in say 24 seconds of this spongebob clip Spongebob Squarepants - "It's Not My Wallet" (MY FAVORITE) 01 - YouTube

All in all, wonderful job & im looking forward to your next one!

Thank you so much for your detailed review @VideoDon  I really appreciate you taking the time to give me such great comments!
I will work on incorporating some of your suggestions in my upcoming videos. I am generally more focused on trying not to goof up while coding live, I sometimes forget to pay attention to the smaller details that you have mentioned.
I would love to chat with you sometime soon to get an understanding about how best to throw light on the subject in the first 5 seconds and I am definitely going to be picking your brain on what software/equipment can I use to record the video. To be honest, I don’t have much experience editing(like adding sound, special effects, etc.) so I avoid getting into that zone altogether but I am open to learning about it for sure.

Once again, thanks a lot for your feedback! Looking forward to chatting soon.
