Introduction

In June we had our first IRL (“in real life”) activity, a dramaturgy workshop held in Botucatu, a small Brazilian town from São Paulo state, 150 miles far from the capitol. The same group that are producing this now are proposing a commemorative soirée, with other deliveries that can be better seen in their proposal, but the point here is that the Writer’s Guild, Near Foundation and web3 concepts are not only being talked about, but seen, heard, and felt by rural people who would otherwise not encounter opportunities to join this space.

This is a nice example of the motto of one of my favorites creative writing classes: show, don’t tell.

We also had two poetry publications:

A delicate one speaking of deforestation, climate change, the domination of monocultures, proposing reflections about the growing disconnection between humans and nature;

Another one bringing together the universes of mental health and poetry through the poetic eyes of a psychologist that worked in the public health system in one of the worst countries in the world to be living during a pandemic.

Besides those two, we funded book research that became 3XR galleries, rhymes-based writing bounties, and we finally started to build up our communication strategies.

You can see all that, projects status and their results in our June report.

July plans and projects

After four months of activities, we’re better at understanding what’s working, what’s not, and what can be improved — so, the time for us to make some changes is coming.

All approved projects have been delayed in their delivery. It’s not the first time this has happened and we realized generally that proponents wait until the funds arrive and then begin to work, which seems fair, but complicates our accounting. We have a 10 day to two week gap between our monthly funding proposal approval and the arrival of funds, so proponents are starting to work towards the end of the month, when they should have been finishing and doing their project’s final report at that time.

We’re working on two scenarios to solve this, but we couldn’t deeply discuss them before our funding proposal’s due date, so we’re presenting our July funding request in the same vein as previous ones - to continue Writers Guild’s work in supporting, spreading the presence and bringing more creative writing workers to help us build the Near ecosystem.

We intend to post a new projects workflow proposal over the next weeks to discuss with the Creatives DAO community, because we feel that other DAOs must be having similar questions, and maybe together we can find new ways to keep building our ecosystem.

Always keeping diversity in mind, here are the projects that the Writer’s Guild has selected to carry out in July:

  1. Dramatic Conversations | podcast, part 1
    (700 usd in DAI) submitted by @JohnFaus

  2. Soiree of Notívagos | 10th Edition

TOTAL BUDGET: 4,830 usd in DAI

*A few months ago Medium changed its business plan and now only paid accounts can create publications, and this is essential for us, to serve as a funded project repository and also help us reach wider audiences.
