INTRODUCTION.
I live in Nigeria - a country that is crazy about football (soccer, in the US). From watching it, to playing it, to spending long hours talking about it… Nigerian youths spend a lot of their time (especially on weekends) participating, one way or another, in football. I propose a Near Sports Engagement and Education Initiative. This initiative will use sports as a tool to interface, engage and sensitize them to the benefits of the Near Protocol, and ultimately onboard them.
While there are other platforms under this initiative, they will be rolled out in phases. The Football Viewing Centre and The Near Amateur League are the two most pertinent platforms to be launched under the proposed Near Sports Engagement and Education Initiative, thus:
- FOOTBALL VIEWING CENTRE
All over the country, there are what is called football viewing centres where most youths watch football matches every week. The most modest football viewing centres may hold as many as 50 people, and since there are many teams with their own unique fans, there’s always a flow of fresh faces. There are viewing centres large enough to hold over 500 people at the same time. Getting 100 youths to open Near Wallets is great, but getting that many to use it fairly regularly is even better - and this is the goal of this project.
PROJECT SUMMARY
To establish a Football Viewing Centre that accepts Near Tokens as its primary means of payment for Football Matches viewed.
MODALITIES.
Phase 1 (Onboarding)
Once the viewing centre is set up, promotional events will be hosted. These events will feature:
•Free matches
•Help with opening at least 50 wallets
•Near Education and Sensitisation talks
•Food and drinks
•Near Airdrops
Phase 2 - Going “Live”
Having secured about 50 subscribers¹ during the promotion events, we will go live i.e. begin to show football matches.
Phase 3 - Continued Onboarding
Half-time talks to onboard newbies, and occasional refreshments incentivise subscribers will continue indefinitely.
PAYMENTS
Subscription
The most of payments for match viewing will be done by subscription. Customers will make one time payments in Near to cover for several months, or even a year, of match viewing.
MATERIALS NEEDED
Viewing Centre Structure:
Except in the rare event that an empty hall is perfectly positioned to serve the purposes of the viewing centre, one would need to be constructed from scratch. This is the story of most viewing centres: their operations are conducted from temporary structures.
A temporary structure will need to be erected.
Cost of rent (land): $300
Cost of constructing a 42 x 36 ft structure: $1300
Furniture
Chairs: @$7/chair, 50 chairs = $350
Office chair and table = $100
Television
$150 x 3
= $450
Satellite
Decoders, dishes, subscription, installation etc.

Fliers, banners, infographics on Viewing Centre walls for active and passive Near education $500
Incentive refreshments, eg. cold drinks and occasional popcorns (I will pay for these).
Total:
$3539
Multi-Purpose Benefits of The Viewing Centre Structure
•Near Education and Sensitisation Centre: This temporary structure can be used to host small gatherings for talks and seminars or onboarding events.
•Near Meetups: As the number of Near Users grow, the structure can serve as a mustering point for Near Users and lovers to meet, strategise, socialise, etc.
- The Near Amateur League.
Even without the clout the football viewing centre will give me, I’m a fairly well-known figure with the youths of my community. We play football together and I know that there’s a lot of them who enjoy playing as much as watching it. I propose a small football competition where the winning team and two runners up get prizes in Near.
This event will present incredible onboarding opportunities as I will highlight presently.
Summary of Event
Maximum of 10 teams, 5 players a-side will register for the competition i.e. 50 players altogether. To register, all the teammates will have to have Near Wallets, and a registration fee of 1N will be paid. Seminars will be held to sensitise them about Near and the event. Competition itself will span 3 weeks after which the winning team and the runners up will emerge.
Benefits Of The Near Amateur League
•At the end of the League, coupled with the viewing centre, Near Protocol will be on the lips and digital devices of all the football loving youths in my community.
•No less than 100 wallets will be opened
•More publicity will be garnered for the viewing centre.
Cost
Jerseys: x50pieces $250
Footballs: x3 $50
Water, glucose, etc.: $50
Logistics (pitch and other organisational arrangements [banners, fliers, etc.]): $500
Prizes: Winning Team $300, 2nd place $175, 3rd place $100. Total Prizes: $575
Total $925
