[APPROVED] EthDenver Sponsorship & Activation [$30k]

TLDR of the proposal: As presented during the Community Council call, am requesting $30k for our EthDenver Sponsorship and Activation. This will cover us as a Cipher Sponsor + includes our idea for an interactive Art Installation (at no additional cost, since James is the meta-content steward for the event).

Detailed proposal - max 450 words, if more info is needed link to docs: EthDenver is one of “the majors” as far as blockchain hackathons go. We’re going to lean into this one and try out an experiment to gain exposure and traction among ETH developers. For this year, ETHDenver has created a VR game that replicates the look of “the sports castle” (usual venue) in digital format. Sponsor booths live inside “The Shill Zone.”

This will include a 5min “on-stage” presentation during the opening ceremony, a technical workshop, and a panel talk. We are creating an extended content plan that we are trying to get through in addition to our sponsorship, via other channels (which includes a talk on the Rainbow Bridge, a workshop on NEAR 101, and two panels with NEAR projects/founders as participants).

Cost Breakdown is as follows:

$20k is Allocated to EthDenver (with $6k as a “Bounty Credit” for projects building on NEAR). An additional $4k in NEAR is allocated to Bounties. There’s $5k in NEAR to be locked inside our “Sputnick DAO” art installation and $1k to cover the “digital swag” of NEARnames at our virtual booth.

Potential ROI/impact on the NEAR Ecosystem: This could be super cool. It’ll help us stand out from other projects. The talks’ content and placement will help with NEAR awareness/ecosystem. Our art installation will live inside the Maker Space, and create a cool experiential activity to do the following: create awareness + engage developers, acquire new developers, educate developers, acquire new NEAR users, and get more projects/developers building on top of NEAR.

Amount of funding: $30,000

- 2-10K$ - 2X Yes - no min quorum
- 10-30K$ - 3X Yes - min quorum 4 of 7 - 4X members should vote in either direction
- Above 30K$ requires Erik or Illia's additional approval
- Above 100K$ requires NEAR Foundation Council approval

big support of this initiative! However, historically speaking, we can probably negotiate down a bit

To clarify, only $14k goes to the sponsorship. The rest of the $$ is allocated to NEAR bounties ($6k FIAT and $4k NEAR) + our Art-DAO activation + NEARNames swag (every person gets $5 N with their NEARname at the Virtual NEAR booth inside the game). :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for clarifying the sponsorship details Dani – I was curious on that too as the sponsorship felt a bit high.

So to clarify:

$14k - sponsorship
$10k - bounties

Not super clear what the remaining $6k goes to, did you mean thats for the art dao + NEARnames swag?

EDIT:
Also worth noting: ETH Denver was super helpful in e-mailing all their previous attendees with a Ready Layer One invite – which helped drive over 100+ attendees. I think it’s worthwhile to continue supporting them in exchange for their support of our future initiatives.

Yes. Breakdown:

$14k - Actual sponsorship

$6k - FIAT bounties (set up as an “internal credit” since EthDenver pays those out directly to hackers, which is why the EthDenver total is $20k)

$4k - $NEAR bounties (our max bounty limit as a Cipher sponsor is $10k so we are covering this part in tokens… to get tokens in the hands of devs/ecosystem).

$5k - To be “trapped” inside SputnikDAO, which will live inside our art installation in the MakerSPACE (so then hackers would engage with it by joining the DAO— we are ideating on how this would work) ** This is an experiment **

$1k - NEARNames (it’s “digital swag” at $5N per person)
