We did some investigation but since our funding was quited delayed we weren’t able to complete this investigation and will still go forward with it this month of September, but not ask for more funding.
For now me and @parisinocencio (more him on this first part presented) have gathered a lot of material and legal knowledge about Cooperatives, more specificly in Portugal, a lot of this material also applies to Europe. Since there’s a European Cooperative Society that tries to achive a this theme and make it more then country specific.
In a succint I will now explain a few of the subjects studied, this will further presented in a document to be written after this investigation.
The main principles of cooperatives or co-ops is:
-
1º Free and Voluntary admission - Everyone is welcome to join cooperatives without prejudice or any kind of racism. Its not possible to create coopeatives with this basis. This is a great field that is one of the main focus also of Web 3.0. To make accessibility to everyone everywhere.
-
2º Democratic management by it’s Members - Everyone is able to decide, vote or democratically choose the Cooperatives decisions that affect them. This can be made by the full cooperative or the groups. This is easy to understand how it mirrors in DAOs and Web 3.0, but can be further developed with the technology and automation of smart contracts.
-
3º Economic Participation - Members contribute with equal parts of capital or work. Spreading profits and benefits for all the cooperative. Again, easy to figure how could deFI, DAOs and tokenization can affect a community or a DAO, that could be mirrored legally by a cooperative.
-
4º Autonomy and Independence - While cooperating and existing, Cooperatives are controlled by its members, while still cooperating with other intenties, recieving funds or any cooperation they always should be in control by their own decisions and the decisions of their members. Decentralization, it’s the key to success in communities.
-
5º Education, education and information - Cooperatives should always try to grow their members ability to work inside and outside the cooperative, giving them the ability to achieve in great ideas and plans. This is a must, always focus in your own and try and given the ability to grow. Gruta currently is mainly focusing on this and trying to get people to understand better web 3.0 and its potential.
-
6º Intercooperation - Cooperation between cooperatives and organizations is a must. Like DAOs and every project, we can grow if we collaborate. In web 3.0, this is even further possible.
-
7º Community interests - Sustainability is a must. Achieving that is only possible if the cooperatives or DAOs grow with all the before principles put to pratice.
We will be further developing this thread in a new report in this month of September with the next fields.
- Legal terms and specifications that can apply to Web 3.0
- Technical ideas, like smart contracts, NFT, DAOs or DeFi that can apply to Cooperatives.
