- North African community: Our Vision
The dawn of Web 3.0 marks a transformative era in the digital landscape, characterized by decentralized applications, data ownership, and enhanced user control. This paradigm shift from the centralized nature of Web 2.0 promises to revolutionize the way we interact with the internet, creating a more equitable and secure online ecosystem.
North Africa, with its untapped talent and growing interest in cutting-edge technologies, presents a fertile ground for nurturing the development of Web 3.0. Tunisia, in particular, is emerging as a regional leader in fostering innovation and embracing the latest technological advancements through its evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem. The need for a Web 3.0 community in North Africa arises from the region’s vast potential to contribute to the global landscape and benefit from the economic and social opportunities it offers.
In this context, a group of blockchain enthusiasts, supported by DAR Blockchain, a Web 3.0 hub established since 2018, aims to develop a fully integrated Web 3.0 ecosystem tailored to the North African context. This ecosystem will unite a strong and active community eager to adopt a decentralized approach to collaboration, funding, investing, and sourcing by creating DAOs based on the NEAR Protocol DAO factory.
To achieve this vision, several initiatives will be launched over the next six months, including a series of meetups, a Web 3.0 startup incubation program, and a training academy. These efforts will help developers and business professionals acquire the necessary skills and actively participate in the community.
- The philosophy behind the organization of NEAR Meetups :
To build the ecosystem, the first step is to attract people and enthusiasts, creating a solid foundation in order to generate excitement and motivation before convincing them to join the movement of the north African community This will help the entity progress further and establish the necessary infrastructure for the ecosystem.
The Meetups will serve as a platform to foster learning, collaboration, and innovation among the community members by:
- Raising awareness about blockchain and web 3.0 technology
- Explain the purpose of the north african Community and its vision
- Sensitize about NEAR PROTOCOL
- Offering networking opportunity
- Educate and promote the web 3.0 academy
- Showcasing local talents
A significant advantage is that we are not starting from scratch, as we have been able to engage DAR Blockchain’s hub and its network to be part of this movement and support our activities.
- Meetups Summary:
In order to achieve the objectives mentioned above and to attract genuine enthusiasts interested in joining the African community and its DAO, which will be hosted on the NEAR platform, we are planning to launch a series of bimonthly meetups, totaling six meetups over the next three months.
These meetups will be organized as follows: each month, one meetup will take place in the capital, Tunis, where the majority of innovation and dynamism can be found. Additionally, one meetup will be held in each of the three major cities in Tunisia (Sousse, Sfax, and Nabeul). This schedule ensures reaching the maximum of enthousiasts. For the third quarter of 2023, our plan is to expand by organizing meetups in Algeria and Morocco.
In each meetup, spanning three hours of discussions, the following topics will be covered:
- Introduction to blockchain: This session will provide a comprehensive overview of blockchain technology, its history, key concepts, and potential applications. Attendees will gain a fundamental understanding of how blockchain works and its role in creating a decentralized digital landscape.
- Decentralization and DAOs (Panel): A panel discussion will delve into the concept of decentralization and the role of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) in the Web 3.0 ecosystem. Panelists will discuss the benefits and challenges of implementing DAOs and share insights on their real-world applications.
- Introduction to the NEAR Protocol (Presentation): a presentation will introduce attendees to the NEAR Protocol. The session will cover the key features of NEAR, its consensus mechanism, and the advantages it offers to developers and users alike.
- NEAR DAOs and related use cases (Presentation): This segment will showcase various DAOs built on the NEAR Protocol and explore their practical use cases. Attendees will learn about the potential applications of NEAR DAOs and how they can be leveraged for community governance, decentralized finance, and other purposes.
Following each meetup, networking events will be organized to facilitate connections among attendees, fostering an environment where they can get to know one another and support each other’s goals.
- Keys objectives of the meetups:
- Ensure a total attendance of 240 people, distributed as follows:
- 50 individuals per session at the capital meetups
- 30 individuals per session at the regional meetups
- Ensure the presence of 15 entrepreneurs, Web 3.0 enthusiasts, and influencers at the meetups.
- Create 100 NEAR Wallets
- Engage 5 potential project owners, encouraging them to apply for our incubation program (scheduled to start in July 2023)
- Meetups Timeline:
The following timeline outlines our upcoming meetups schedule:
- Meetup 1: April 27, 2023 (Tunis)
- Meetup 2: May 11, 2023 (Sousse)
- Meetup 3: May 25, 2023 (Tunis)
- Meetup 4: June 8, 2023 (Sfax)
- Meetup 5: June 22, 2023 (Tunis)
- Meetup 6: July 6, 2023 (Nabeul)
Before proceeding with the application, we would like to mention that we have already organized two successful meetups. The first meetup took place at the end of February 2023 and had 18 attendees, while the second meetup occurred in March 2023 with approximately 35 participants. These events were accomplished with a very limited budget.
- Budget of the meetups :
Based on our experience from previous meetings and the spending during the first couple of meetups, as well as taking into account our scaling-up plan, we have prepared a brief estimation of the costs for each upcoming meetup:
