Highlights of the month

February was syzygy’s first month of existence and operation within the community and it was a baptism by fire of sorts but also a moment of great pride and motivation to keep pushing.

  • We were able to establish contact, discuss and come to an agreement with I AM CAMEROON.

I AM CAMEROON is an organisation whose mission is to educate, inspire and engage Cameroonians to assume and accept responsibility for the future of the nation.

Their network is made up of Cameroonians in the diaspora and at home who have years of experience in different fields and could be strong mentors for our potential members, participants and even for our guild as we grow.

We became member of their network against a membership fee of $25 (3N)

  • We were also able to make contact with AFRITECH HUB, one of the most active STEM organisations in Cameroon.

AFRITECH HUB’s mission is to motivate young people to pursue STEM careers, develop digital skills and improve gender parity in STEM. Their profile and demographic matched what we have in mind for a partner and are looking forward to working together.

  • We made contact with SELF-ISH, a Medium-based creatives’ collective of writers and creatives. Starting with Self-ish, we would love to progressively educate, guide and onboard creatives to the NEAR ecosystem, Web3 ecosystem, and help them discover how to be productive, and profitable with their craft.

  • We were able to onboard our council members to the NEAR ecosystem with Near wallets.

What we spent

  • I AM CAMEROON membership = $25
  • Withdrawal fiat via Binance = $176
  • Logistics for meetings (internet data, transport, etc) = $80

Fiat available = $96

Lessons and challenges from February

  • We were late in sending in our proposal after much work to get our proposal and roadmap right, so funding came two weeks into February.
  • Coupled with that, the value of NEAR took a big hit throughout February, which in turn caused us to lose over 30% of our funding value in USD (from 2000 USD to 1300 USD and even less at some points)
  • As a result, we couldn’t fully carry out our planned activities (Twitter Spaces events, writers’ competition)
  • After insights and talks within the Creatives community to more experienced DAOs and guilds, we opted to stake 15 N of our funding as an attempt to recover value.
  • We created a syzygy.near account, for more transparency and clarity in dealing with funds.
  • Due to the drop in value and everything else, we decided to not have any council reward for February.

Looking Forward

  • We will be more diligent and punctual with reports and proposals going forward, so we can have a full month of planning and action.
  • March will be more action-oriented as we look to have our introductory Twitter Spaces event, launch a bounty for our logo and brand colours within the community, and also conclude talks with Afritech Hub and Self-ish.
  • Complete our action plan and have a more definite roadmap.
  • Internal discussions about a competition that will be umbrella for what we do across the different communities we will be active in.
  • More discussions with other Creative-based DAOs and guilds for collaborations and activities our participants and members can participate in as we educate and onboard.

Whew! February was a learning curve, and as we take the lessons forward to March and beyond, we also take motivation and confidence in what we have started and the impact it can have in our country, amongst our youths, and Web3 ecosystem.

We keep going! Carpe Diem!
