This program was created to introduce traditional Indonesian music and culture in modern songwriting and production processes. Every month, there will be different speakers who will introduce and provide education about traditional Indonesian musical instruments. His education is not only about the timbre, characteristics of the sound and the scales and patterns of traditional music, but also the culture, traditions and philosophy behind the instrument. Each speaker will have four sessions each month, to provide us with detailed knowledge of the instrument.
The format is online classes and open discussions via zoom and will also be broadcast on SvaraDAO’s social media accounts.
For this month’s speaker, we have contacted Balance Perdana Putra or better known as Gamellance, a hip-hop music producer who composes traditional Indonesian ethnic musical instruments into modern beats.
Here are some instructions for this program:
We and our partner Balance “Gamellance” Perdana Putra will create an online class to educate all members about gamelan, a sound sample of traditional songs.
He will educate about pentatonic, diatonic scales and their correlation with western modern music.
He will educate about the philosophy and culture of the Javanese people behind this instrument.
He will also educate us how to incorporate traditional Indonesian music into modern songwriting and production.
