Proposal for a monthly event called ‘Rhyme Schemes’
Introduction
Poetry is deep and greatly subjective. Its interpretations lie in the readers. Poetry has a way of captivating emotions, which could be through words, the structure of the poems themselves, figures of speech, the poet’s style or the rhymes.
Our focus for the event will be on THE RHYMES.
DETAILS
Every poet has a way with words and rhymes but the most important thing is expression and communication in poetry. It is one thing to write or compose but it is another thing to communicate through the composition.
The aim of this monthly event is to see how each poet competing makes use of words to form a rhyme scheme and eventually communicate their emotions or ideas to us at a large.
The Writer’s Guild is bubbling with talented and creative writers and it would be another level of creativity and DAO engagement if all these writers can be brought together to participate in a single event every month.
Also i sincerely hope for a day when writers can collaborate on writing projects.
Structure of event
The event is structured in a simple way for writers of different genres and nationalities to participate.
Poems: the poems to be written are going to be changing every month. There will be lines limits and it is up to the writer to make stanzas out of the lines.
This month they could write sonnet, the next they could write a sextet and the third they could write a 16liner.
Focus: the focus is rhyme scheme and the use of words. After their submissions, judges will take a look at the poems and decide the best three that has appropriate use of rhymes, the extent to which they are used for expressive purposes and their emotional impact on the poems and the readers as well.
Theme: Every month, new themes will be given to participants so we can have a target.
Voting: Voting will be done by selected council members to avoid multiple votes by one user. This is a bid to reward hardwork, talent and creativity.
Judges will have a score between 0 and 10 for each contestant and at the end of the day, we collate points which will give room to choose the best three participants.
Renumeration:
First Position: 200usd
Second Position: 150usd
Third Position: 100usd
Graphics (only for the first month): 100usd
Host (Big M): 200usd
Total: 750usd for the first month and 650usd for subsequent months.
