[REPORT] Engage-a-thon at NEARCON w/ ShardDog: A Grant Proposal for CDAO & MDAO

Engage-A-Thon was an interactive marketing activation event that took place at NEARCON 2023. During Engage-A-Thon, attendees had the opportunity to collect NFTs, specifically ShardDog NFTs, from participating brands and projects at the NEARCON conference. These NFTs were collected by visiting booths or designated areas of the participating entities. Attendees aimed to fill their passport or bingo card with these NFTs and competed for prizes based on the number of ShardDog NFTs collected and points earned. Engage-A-Thon was designed to foster engagement within the NEAR ecosystem and provide an engaging experience for conference attendees.

Funding overview:

Total amount of the grant ($8500).

Split of costs between CDAO and MDAO ($4250 each)

Reason for Splitting funding between the CDAO and MDAO.

This reflects a strategic recognition that modern projects span multiple disciplines. This approach allows for specialized focus — CDAO on creative and design elements and MDAO on marketing. For instance, in an Engage-A-Thon, this separation ensures that both the creation of compelling content and its effective promotion receive dedicated resources and expertise. We believe collaborative funding not only enhances the quality of work in each domain but also ensures each focus is paid for their time. BTW it’s much harder to do this approach.

One of our metrics is that 182 superfans collected at least 15 ShardDogs. User retention!

Overview of marketing efforts and content creation

We pulled an extensive report of the social engagement metrics for ShardDog and its economic value. We’ll highlight a few because we believe all projects who get marketing funding should pull one of these reports in the future.

Outline the phases of the project (Pre-Event, During Event, Post-Event)

And please keep in mind that constant Social media posting was spread across each of these phases.

Pre-EVENT

Our pre-event responsibilities included purchasing a printer and collaborating with a creative team. We dedicated over 30 hours to print all the necessary materials. Additionally, we designed and created all the printing materials in-house, which was essential due to the unique QR codes for over 80 projects. Each project had customized kits, making the printing process a crucial part of ensuring a successful event. Along with getting stand-up banners printed.

During the EVENT

During the event, our team diligently distributed all the customized kits to over 80 projects, providing explanations and assistance as needed. In addition, our team was busy hanging up posters around the event space to create an immersive experience. We also captured valuable video content and photos to document the event’s exciting moments and showcase the engagement within the NEAR ecosystem.There was also a board created on BOS so people could see what NFTs they created. We also did a unique way for prizes.

Post-EVENT

Following the event, we’ve been actively working on post-event recaps to highlight the key moments and takeaways from NEARCON 2023. Our team is also in the process of creating engaging videos that capture the event’s highlights and insights. Stay tuned for our post-event content as we continue to celebrate the success of NEARCON and the vibrant NEAR ecosystem. Huge shoutout to Monza for a massive recap he did all on his own (and we still paid for his time because we believe people should get paid for their work.

Conclusion:

Engage-A-Thon at NEARCON 2023, supported by an $8,500 grant equally split between CDAO and MDAO, achieved remarkable success.

An important note re: the budget. After we paid out for creative, support, marketing materials, travel and house, 400N for randomized prizes. We did not make any money. In fact we went over budget. But that’s okay! We believe that grants can be supplemental with projects.

Engage-A-Thon’s triumph reflects its impact in fostering engagement within the NEAR ecosystem, setting a standard for future events. We believe this model can work for other event since it combines both IRL and social engagement that delivered a strong return.
