[Proposal] Latina Blockchain Hackathon: Empowering women in technology through a Hackathon

Overview:

Women Biz aims to empower more women in blockchain with the focus of attracting new users, we organize educational bootcamps, workshops, events and hackathons.

In Women Biz, women learn, undertake and become empowered. We have a community of +1800 Spanish-speaking members. Currently we are leading a women’s bootcamp with close to 200 women which we will work with to join the hackathon.

I am Briguit Reinaldo, founder and project director and together with the CORE TEAM and Women Biz ambassadors we want to help the participation of more women in the blockchain ecosystem.

About the project:

Latina Blockchain Hackathon is a 6-day hybrid hackathon with an awards ceremony with the purpose of encouraging more women to build in web3. Our goal is to create a platform that empowers women in technology by giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills, collaborate with like-minded people, and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.

We started developing a free bootcamp for women in web3. It was 6-weeks of full learning about web3, BlockChain, NFT´s, Metaverse and more. Our numbers are:

  • +400 registered

  • +200 scholarships

ABOUT OUR HACKATHON

This hackathon will take place from May 13 to May 18 in Lima, Peru in person and online through Discord. We will bring together different profiles From women entrepreneurs, designers, developers, product managers and artists.

Goals:

  • Increase the participation of women in the blockchain industry
  • Provide a platform for women to showcase their skills and talents.
  • Promote collaboration and networking between women in the web3 ecosystem…
  • Develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive environment for women in technology.

Target audiences:

“Latina Blockchain Hackathon” It is open to all women passionate about technology from any Spanish-speaking country, including:

  • Students
  • Professionals
  • Developers
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Enthusiasts

The hackathon will count:

  • 10 + Workshops: In-person sessions in coworking and virtual.
  • 300+ women participants from 16 countries.
  • 100 + people hacking IRL.
  • 200+ people attending the demoday.
  • 40+ projects submitted.
  • 4 days of access to hackerhouse.

How will the hackathon develop:

  • WORKSHOPS: All talks will be held in hybrid mode: In person at the hacker house and will be broadcast for our participants from other countries.
  • COWORKING: In the coworking we will enable: coffee, snacks and drinks so that the participants can concentrate. It will be enabled 24/7.
  • HACKERS: We will use Console as a channel to resolve doubts and train teams.
  • TEAMS:We will use Charmverse for idea recording and team building.
  • MENTORING: During the week of the hackathon they will have access to different mentors.

HOW SHE IS NEAR CAN COLLABORATE?

  1. ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:
  • 3 Online Workshops of 2 hours.

1.1 First session: Introduction to the Near ecosystem
Goal: Learn about the ecosystem and create your first wallet in the near ecosystem.
1.2 Second sessión: Fundamentals of Near blockchain development
1.3 Third session:Blockchain development using NEAR’s BOS

  1. ABOUT THE METHODOLOGY DURING THE HACKATHON:

To encourage user onboarding into the NEAR ecosystem, we will deploy a dynamic and direct strategy using QR code stickers and banners strategically placed throughout the event. Each QR code will link to a customized Shardog Link, guiding users through an intuitive process to enter the ecosystem. Scanning these codes will allow attendees to effortlessly create a NEAR wallet, claim attendance NFTs, and connect with the corresponding DAO. This method not only simplifies the user experience but also captures the essence of accessibility and engagement we aim to promote.

  1. ABOUT THE CHALLENGES:

CHALLENGE 1: Driving Blockchain Adoption (500 USDT)

Objective: Develop blockchain applications that solve everyday problems and encourage more users to join the blockchain ecosystem.

Description: In this challenge, we are looking for founders who aspire not only to create tech companies but also to become pioneers in the mass adoption of blockchain. Focus on applications that enhance sectors such as education, healthcare, financial inclusion, or logistics, thus promoting broader adoption of this technology.

There are many ways of integrating in the NEAR ecosystem:

  • NEAR has low transaction fees that favor the creation of products on this chain.
  • Decentralized interfaces will be able to be built that do not require the configuration of a wallet.
  • NEAR allows you to sign transactions on various blockchains with ease.
  • NEAR promises to develop products with high security.

Criteria:

CHALLENGE 2: Innovation in the NEAR Governance (500 USD)

Objective: Design solutions that refine and simplify governance on blockchain platforms, making them more accessible, understandable, and democratic.

Description: Efficient governance is crucial for the long-term success of any blockchain technology. This challenge invites you to create tools that facilitate collective decision-making, enhance transparency and community engagement, and strengthen trust in these platforms.

There are many ways of collaborating in the NEAR Governance:

  • Developing a product to empower NEAR Community and Ecosystem growth.
  • Facilitating collaboration among NEAR ecosystem builders, influencers, and advocates.
  • Create resources to share the DAO’s mission: fostering widespread adoption, awareness, and engagement with NEAR’s technologies and community.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated Technical Proficiency

  • Minimum 80 wallet downloads
  • 3 Workshop Near Ecosystem
  • Number of Devs onboarded to the DAO: 50
  • Outreach to a new audience: 100 women - Our bootcamp participants are women who first heard about web3 thanks to our training.
  • Community Engagement Metrics: 5k impressions on X, 4K impressions on Linkedin.
