On 01/10/22 we will collaborate with our partners Santos Collective and Estrela Junta de Fregusia to create a one-off multidisciplinary show in Jardim Nuno Álvares.
The show will be in support of a group of Afghan refugees who were previously musicians in their home country, before fleeing from the Taliban.
They have sought shelter in Lisbon, and this show will raise awareness for their situation, and aims to raise enough money to purchase instruments for them. With instruments, they have their craft back in their hands and can again create a decent living for themselves.
The event will last all day, and finish with a screening of the film FLEE, an award-winning animated film about an Afghan refugee. Earlier in the day there will be music, food, drinks, and tickets will be sold with the profits going to directly support the refugees.
Why NEAR?
Held in a public park, and with the partnership of the local council and a high profile local Collective, the event will already gain a lot of attention. But we will also promote it to local media as both a cultural and entertaining show, and also an opportunity to support a very worthwhile cause.
It is difficult to predict the actual attendance on the day, but we expect it to be in the hundreds, plus members of the press.
Like in our regular Santos shows, we will make sure that NEAR is displayed on the screen before the film. The potential for this to be captured in people’s camera lenses is huge.
In addition, everyone working on the day will be a volunteer. Therefore we hoped to give a gift as a sign of appreciation of 15$ per person. Of course, this gift would be paid in NEAR, and is the perfect opportunity to introduce collaborators to NEAR as a positive force in the community.
