Meta Pool Ambassador Gino Matos Report — May 2025

Meta Pool in Brazil during May 2025

This is a recap of Gino Matos’ activities in the trial for a Meta Pool ambassador role between April and May 2025. The metrics provided were extracted on June 7.

Articles recap

Post #1 – April 24: Published a long tweet about the importance of education as a strong boost for people looking to work with Web3, mentioning Meta Pool’s scholarship program with Blockchain Center at the University of Zurich.

Post #2 – April 28: Published a long tweet breaking down Meta Pool liquid staking tokens (LST) with the most total value locked (TVL), those being stNEAR, mpETH, and stIP.

Conclusions were:

  • stNEAR offered one of the “smallest” yields among NEAR-related LSTs, but had the most composability among them.
  • mpETH offered the highest yield compared to the largest liquid staking protocols by TVL, but lacked composability.
  • stIP offered the highest yield and has interesting partnerships with protocols offering high APY, which complement its yield.

Post #3 – May 6: Published a long tweet breaking down the yield mechanism for mpDAO, which offers rewards in stNEAR. I did not consider mpIP 15.

By buying and locking in mpDAO for one year, as of April 30, investors would have a 26% return on their money. During the same period, the market’s average performance was a 30% drawdown.

Post #4 – May 20: Published a long tweet explaining how calculating TVL might be tricky if only dollar-denominated values are assessed.

I highlighted that during the market’s latest peak in December 2024 and the subsequent bottom in April 2025, networks added native tokens to their TVL. I used Ethereum and Solana as benchmarks because they are the largest decentralized finance ecosystem and the fastest-growing ecosystem, respectively, during the period.

Furthermore, I analyzed Meta Pool’s and Near’s performance, with both growing in NEAR allocated.

Post #5 – May 29: Published a long tweet on the “yield-bearing tokens” era, highlighting how tokenomics are particularly important now as a way to show how much revenue protocols generate and how day apply it.

I used a brief introduction on mpIP 15 as an example to explain how buybacks and burns (despite the proposal being only about buybacks) are commonly used to provide real value to holders and control price dynamics.

Post #6 – May 30: Published a long tweet on the importance of decentralization, as there are no degens without blockchains.

Briefly touched on the recent Sui incident, with no valor judgment on the case, to exemplify how the episode surfaced decentralization discussions again.

Mentioned the upcoming launch (at the time) of Node Studio and how it aims to tackle known concerns around decentralization, such as high dollar-denominated staking barriers, the necessity of some degree of technical knowledge, and a device with enough processing power.

Spaces recap

Spaces #1 – April 24: Used the “Post #1” long tweet as a hook to host a Twitter Spaces with Raffa Loffredo, founder of 77 Innovation Labs and Chainlink Advocate, about the importance of education on Web3.

Raffa and her partner won a Chainlink hackathon in 2023, despite having no prior knowledge of Web3. Since then, both have begun studying blockchain and have become prominent figures in the Brazilian blockchain community.

We discussed Meta Pool’s scholarship program, noting that it is one of the few providing access to formal Web3 education, and how such educational programs can support college students in the blockchain industry.

Spaces #2 – May 6: Used the “Post #3” long tweet as a hook to host a Twitter Spaces with Guiriba, researcher at Paradigma Education focused on governance, to discuss the state of DAO governance and the role of tokens.

We discussed how DAOs have undergone significant changes in their internal processes since 2021, particularly in terms of budget allocation and roles.

Despite these changes, no substantial shifts occurred on token dynamics other than “venomics” models, making investments in governance tokens somewhat lackluster.

Nevertheless, we discussed the yield models for these assets and highlighted how Meta Pool’s model minimizes token inflation by offering returns through stNEAR.

Spaces #3 – May 29: Used the “Post #5” long tweet as a hook to host a Twitter Spaces with Crypto Sincero, a content creator heavily focused on Hyperliquid currently, to discuss the importance of tokenomics dynamics in this new era of yield-bearing tokens.

We discussed different supply control models, such as Hyperliquid’s, Jupiter’s, and Meta Pool’s. We concluded that, as of now, it is difficult to predict how these models will fare in the long term. A market downturn is necessary to test the different models presented during the current cycle, when revenue declines, and resources should be spent wisely.

I highlighted that Meta Pool appears to be aware of this, as the mpIP 15 has a six-month testing period to assess how the new tokenomics will impact mpDAO holders.

Additionally, I delved into the mpIP 15 numbers, furthering what I published earlier on the same day.
