Consequent of the AMA session with the Urushalima Foundation, some group of people from the Foundation and various medical fields who are interested in the Near ecosystem came together in partner with some other members of the Near Nigeria Guild. Nigeria is often referred to as the “Giant of Africa”, owing to its large population and economy with approximately 182 million inhabitants. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa and the seventh most populous country in the world.

Health problems in Nigeria are challenging, but addressing them using public health principles is necessary to support stability in this important area of the world.

Overall life expectancy at birth is 54 years; infant mortality rate is 86 per 1000 live birth while maternal mortality ratio is 840 per 100,000 live births.

According to the 2011 World Health Statistics, malaria mortality rate for Nigeria is 146 per 100,000 population. Nigeria has one of the highest Tuberculosis burden in the world (311 per 100,000) resulting in the largest burden in Africa.

The top 10 causes of death in Nigeria are as follows:

  1. Malaria (20%)

  2. Lower Respiratory Infection (19%)

  3. HIV/AIDS (9%)

  4. Diarrheal Diseases (5%)

  5. Road Injuries (5%)

6.Protein Energy Malnutrition (4%)

  1. Cancer (3%)

8.Meningitis (3%)

9.Stroke (3%)

10.Tuberculosis (2%)

Globally about 58 million people died in the year 2005, however more than 10 million (about 18.8 percent) were from the WHO African Region. More than three-fifths (64 percent) of the death that occurred in the region resulted from HIV/AIDS (19%), lower respiratory infections (10%), malaria (8%), diarrhoeal diseases (7%), cerebrovascular disease (4%), ischaemic heart disease (3%), tuberculosis (3%), measles (3%), lowbirth weight (2%), birth asphyxia and birth trauma (2%) and maternal conditions (2%). These data shows that health problem is a major challenge to the Nigerian society, Africa and the world at large. The Near Medical team will help to provide health services under the umbrella of near Blockchain inform of medical outreaches, and many other as discussed in the plan below.

The Medical Team

The Near medical team consist of experienced registered medical personels spanning through the diverse medical fields who are interested to work with the Near ecosystem in creating values in Africa and globally who will be the core team members, and will be responsible for also mobilizing other medical Practitioners and students as assistant in carrying out the outreaches. Those assistants will be trained, educated on the Near ecosystem and onboarded.

Mission

The mission of the Near Medical Team is bringing Blockchain technology and specifically the near Blockchain into the health system.

Goals/ plans

The goals of the near medical team are classified under 3 categories

  1. Short term goal which is to be achieved within a year .

These include:

*conducting regular medical
outreaches across the geographical distributions of the regions in Nigeria at first which will be after every 3 months

*Collaborations and partnership with government agencies and various professional bodies including the Nigerian Medical Association, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, pharmacist association of Nigeria , Association of Nigeria Medical Laboratory scientist and various association of private healthcare practitioners.

  • Collaborating with other health related
    blockchains to enhance projects.
  1. Middle term goals which is set to take
    place between 1-3years.

These includes:

  • .Having a corporate registration with
    the Nigerian Government as an
    operating organization.

  • Securing an office in one of the
    Nigerian major towns.

  • More partnership with more
    government bodies and also
    Blockchain industries.

  1. Long term goals which should take between 3-5years and includes

  • Partnering with relevant authorities
    within Africa and the globe to conduct
    medical outreaches within Africa and
    also going global

  • Collaborating with international health
    bodies and agencies

  • Establishing a near medical Pharmacy
    and as well hospitals where healthcare
    services are rendered and near as
    native token for payments.

  • Establishing an electronic health clinic
    and agencies for consultation and
    making near becoming the native
    token for transactions as well.

Sustainability plan

The near medical team have a structured sustainability plan to ensure inflow of income for carrying out activities without fatique. These plans include:

  • Partnership with relevant health
    related blockchains who are ready to
    sponsor health programs.

  • Establishing the near Pharmacy which
    is profit driven and used as source of i
    income.

  • Establishment of near clinics both
    physical and electronic which will
    enable inflow of income for activities.

  • Seeking sponsorships from
    organizations which are interested in
    health promotive activities.

  • Some other businesses as will be
    harnessed and agreed by the core
    team members.

Functions of the near medical team plans and activities

  1. Providing healthcare assistant to communities therefore recreating the mindset of the major masses on what Blockchain has to offer.

  2. Engaging with government collaborations as well as community leaders thus also making those agencies having a different view of the Blockchain and how it can positively influence our societies.

  3. Onboarding assistants and community members thus increasing adoption of Near Blockchain.

Sorry I am also a member of the proposed team. The funding will require a yearly grant which will be used for running activities including the quarterly outreaches programs and some other relevant partnerships need with government agencies and other aforementioned bodies. Thanks

The team is also opened for partnership. However, the proposed plans of activities aim to benefit the masses who are not in any near community in order to change people’s perspective of the Blockchain and near in specific. Making the people understand Blockchain platforms provides solutions to their problems and this can also increase acceptability and mass adoption of the Near Blockchain

The plan is to go for a yearly grand that will cover all the above mention activity down to the outreaches across the zones and relevant meeting with medical association to unveil this vision of what near protocol can offer to our health system.

Thank you so much for the comment, as stated above by one of the team member, we want to first be accepted by Near Community and then all the possible support near could offer to this team in going about unveiling what near ecosystem stand for to the community outside.

Secondly in respond to what if their is already and existing body for near Community health, wow that’s cool, but this team is build with the vision of first meeting to the health of the community outside, were they get to see another perspective of what blockchain stand for not all about finances but that even their own health is a concern to near blockchain, an can only be achieve by organizing a free medical outreach to the community, were their illnesses will be address and in that light the government body and traditional body will tend to see this good deed and will want to open their mind to any positive thing from the ecosystem.

@Ejabani moving forward, if all @CommunityDAO council/members support this, I think it’s time to create a group in the DAO and start with what will make effect to the community at large.

This idea actually helps a whole lot of people see blockchain in a different perspective and it’s great that it starts with NEAR Protocol.

Hello I am calling on all #npk-guild members to look into this proposal. This was not communicated on the NPK Guild Council and this does not represent in any way our roadmap for this year and I think shouljg be discussed in the council first before it been pushed here on the Governance Forum.

The NEAR Health Guild already has medical outreach and public goods in it’s planned activities, which we’ll be starting in May 2022.

We even plan to make everyone in the NEAR Health community eligible to carryout medical outreach in the name of Near by submitting a proposal to the NEAR Health DAO, after discussion in the community telegram and favorable votes, we’ll provide the resources for the outreach.

Just thought we could work together.

Thanks for your comment. This team came up from the event the Near protocol had with Urushalima Foundation. So some medics within the Foundation decided to also come up with proposal to build into near and promote the vision of the Near ecosystem. If you check mostly the members are members of the Urushalima Foundation. However, the team is also open up for expansion and collaborations however, few of the NPK Guild members were added to help based on expertize and experience within the ecosystem to be part of the team so that knowledge about the ecosystem will be shared to members and other members that will be recruited. These NPK Guild members are also anchor to the AMA event of which the team contacted when the idea came about. Thanks you can chat me up for further clarifications and suggestions. Thanks
