Cannes Event Recap

Hi everyone,

First things first, a massive thank you to everyone who participated or otherwise had a hand in helping make our first in-person event a reality: the NF events team, Gauntlet, @kent and the Agora team, @KlausBrave and Hack Humanity, the Metapool team, @bearmans, krystof from L2Beat, the delegates who attended, and of course everyone else that I’m forgetting. I consider the event a big success, and I think it was a great first opportunity to get to know one another, build trust, share updates, and even make some progress together. My personal goal for the event was more about building trust and getting to know one another than it was about the latter, and with @KlausBrave 's guiding hand, we accomplished this well. (I wrote more about my motivation in my personal substack.)

I won’t spend much time talking about the format or content of the event. Klaus and I covered that pretty well in this X space, and @charleslavon kindly posted a couple of threads on X (one, two) covering this. I don’t have much to add.

In brief, we did four things:

  1. We had some intros/panels/fireside chats, with Gauntlet, Agora, myself, and a special guest from L2Beat.
  2. We had demos and updates from Gauntlet, Agora, and Metapool (on the AI governance copilot that they built for us)
  3. @KlausBrave facilitated some icebreaker/trust building/“get to know one another” type activities, that also touched upon mission/vission/values
  4. We broke into working groups and spent some time discussing current work and goals for each group

Delegates (individuals and orgs) in attendance (8/11):

  • Charles
  • Yuan
  • Cameron
  • Alan
  • NEARWEEK
  • Areta
  • Aurora
  • 404

Things on my mind now as I reflect on this event and consider next steps:

  • Do we want to do something similar again? When, and where, and with whom?
  • Would we want to do it alongside a larger event, like EthCC, or as a standalone event?
  • If so, do we want to alter the format or structure? Should it be the same length, longer, or shorter?
  • What are our values and goals as an organization, and how do events like this reflect our values and help achieve our goals?
  • How does this fit in with our goal to host a GovHack event later this year with @KlausBrave 's team? (See note below about GovHack for more)
  • Did the delegates and other attendees find this event as helpful as I did? Which parts were the most useful?
  • Did trust meaningfully increase as a result of our time together? (And how would we measure that?)
  • Do folks agree with me that we need to meet f2f periodically to maintain and increase trust?
  • How do we encourage participation in f2f events from those who weren’t able to make it this time? (e.g., people with visa issues, or other travel issues)
  • How can we increase transparency and community participation in future events, both virtual and in person?

I definitely encourage others who attended to weigh in and share their thoughts - both their overall impression of the event, as well as potentially their answers to these other questions.

I’ll continue to give it some thought and share some of my own answers later.

Thanks!

Lane

Thank you! Regarding the featured events, I do believe they should all be funded through the House of Stake (HoS).

Congrats on a successful first in-person event! :tada: Sounds like it really hit the mark in building trust and community — huge thanks to everyone who made it happen.
