Near New Year Event Report
We held a successful New Year Event on the 26th of February with a good attendance of one hundred and twenty-three (123) recorded attendance and ninety-two (92) staying to the end. This event was held at College of Engineering Design Art and Technology (CEDAT) Conference Hall, Makerere University.
Our audience was made up of a wide range of professions, majorly from the technical background with a good turn up from the Good Developer Students Club, Makerere University and Kyambogo University chapters.
We had presentations from Mucunguzi Moses, the Blockchain Club of Uganda Guild Head with insights in Blockchain Technology, Ojok Hezron with a presentation about NFT’s, case for the MintBase Market place and David Lumala, our current technical head who walked the technical dominated audience through writing smart contracts on Near with Rust and Solidity. Here are some events and recordings from the event Near New Year Event - Google Drive
We enjoyed cool and positive response from the attendees with a good number (about five) software students showing interest in doing their final year projects on blockchain, particularly Near Protocol.
From our event, we also got suggestion for a Near Hackathon in the near future to share blockchain ideas for a more informed process to building on Near. The local developers also appreciated David Lumala’s presentation about deploying smart contracts on Near which made us realize the need for more technical meetups with the local devs.
The local dev’s who showed interest for building on Near were direct to the Certified Near Developer Course. Meanwhile, our technical Lead(David) has successfully taken the course through and is also in close connection with the @Sankore2.0 Guild technical team to help him acquire the necessary experience as a Near instructor to ensure the success of our technical meetups and hackathons.
