Near Africa x ETH Safari (September 2023)
Event Introduction
ETHSafari is the largest Ethereum Conference on the continent of Africa. The event will be held in Kenya, bringing together people from around the world to learn, hack, discuss, and celebrate a decentralized future. Safari is the Swahili word for journey. ETHSafari will feature an online hackathon, a bootcamp in Nairobi, alongside other side events in the city under the sun. They will have a train journey on the Standard Gauge Railway and the climax, a conference and festival on the Kenyan coast in Kilifi.

Near Africa is a regional hub committed to accelerating the adoption of Near protocol, the revolutionary Blockchain operating system (BOS), Near Digital Collective (NDC), and cutting-edge Web3 technologies across Africa. Our unwavering mission is to empower developers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts, fostering a dynamic ecosystem of innovation, collaboration, and economic empowerment throughout the continent. Our team has successfully held a workshop on NEAR and BOS with university students in Cross Rivers State, Nigeria. The following links represent previous workshops we have successfully completed.

Event Impact
The sponsorship of the ETH Safari will make a profound impact on the NEAR ecosystem and the Ethereum builder community throughout Africa. With a keynote speaking address by our core council member, Sharufa R. Walker, we aim to educate and drive the adoption of the Blockchain Operating System (BOS), raise awareness about Near Digital Collective (NDC) and its new form of governance, and highlight some of the active projects building within the Near ecosystem. We aim to educate, inspire, create, and grow Near’s footprint within the African Continent. Bringing more African builders on chain with Near!
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Collaboration for Excellence: Foster strong collaborations between the African communities in the East African Region, NEAR Africa, and beyond. Ensuring the amplification of Near’s ecosystem as being Web 2.5 bridge for builders, founders, entrepreneurs, creatives, and visionaries.
- Protocol Outreach: Bring deep awareness about Near utility to new communities within the African continent and globally. Highlight the new governance process with NDC and what the launch of V1 means for Near. Share a range of ecosystem projects from DAO’s to ReFi.
- Fund Utilization: Ensure the proper and efficient allocation of funds, guaranteeing that they are utilized as intended for the sponsorship, thus maximizing the impact of the event
Funding Request
We kindly request a total funding of $3500, which will be allocated as follows:
