Discussion: Extend [Redacted] Hackathon submission deadline

Hello friends,

I would also like to propose the submission date for [Redacted] Hackathon be moved to October 31st.

For the [Redacted] Hacker House in Chiang Mai in particular, most participants of Archilepago - network of pop-up villages from several ecosystems - are arriving around October 7 and are staying til November 7.

We initially set the hacker house to Oct 1 to be inline in [Redacted] Hackathon, but we would be missing out on a few extra days of hacking in person (accomodation has still be offered til 31st) with the current submission date.

It’s been very busy w. Token 2049 and ETH KL, and now some extra challenges with the floods here, but once people finally get down here to do deep work, those extra few days could be great. Specially for late joiners we convince to join here from other pop-up villages.

I understand that change the submission date would create some potential logistical challenges for the judging period, etc. but I would like to invite all to think of how we might be able to strike a balance. Perhaps;

  • encourage early submission if projects that have finished (“don’t wait til last minute to submit!”
  • have a cut off date for submission for teams to be eligible to present on stage at the conference, but allow submissions til 31.
  • have a cut off for main track submissions, but allow people to submit for bounty sponsored tracks til later.

Let me know what you think;

Sal from NEAR TORONTO here! We completely agree that an extension would greatly enhance both the quality and quantity of submissions from the :canada: Waterloo City Node.

We’re currently up against a tight timeline, and most of our hackers are local computer science students from the two universities. We’ve been hearing some concerns about the overlap with Mid-Term/Reading Week, and we believe that a small extension would definitely be beneficial for everyone involved.
