Seminar 2 - Art & Erotism in Georges Bataille

Incubadora intends to create a monthly educational program involving art, technology and their potentialities. Through seminars, workshops and talks we want to onboard artists and researchers to share knowledge with our community. The program will be open to everyone who wants to join, for free (with Airdrops to reward engagement).

Title: All erotic eyes

Description: What does Georges Bataille’s philosophy of the erotic have to tell us about humanity? What is the place of sexuality in relation to the desire for violation, the deliberate violence that affects us and our religious life? In this brief encounter on erotism we will seek to reflect on this author’s contribution to the understanding of human nature itself.

Speaker BIO:

Potira Maia (Vitória da Conquista, 1982) artist and researcher, is graduated in Visual Arts (2016), in Pedagogy (2006) with specialization in Education, Culture and Memory and Special Education. Currently completing her Masters in Painting at the University of Lisbon.
@Maia

The workshop will happen in January 13th, online.
It will be held in Portuguese.

Dear NatLoyola, be extremely careful, you may come across pictures or photos of a sexual nature, sorry for the comparison, as from “bad old porn magazine”, which can touch and offend your artistic and cultural soul!

Bataille asks the question that we ask ourselves all the time: about the difference between nature and culture. His answer was formulated almost at the very beginning of The History of Eroticism in a very simple form, which is simply worth reading:

“I proclaim as a principle the indisputable fact that man is an animal that does not accept a natural given just like that, but denies it. Thus, changing the external natural world, he extracts from it the tools of labor, manufactured objects that make up the new world, the human world. At the same time, a person denies himself, educates himself, for example, refuses to give his animal needs that free flow in which animals do not restrain themselves. In addition, it is necessary to recognize that both denials - of the given world and of his own animality - are linked by a person. "

Sincerely yours, Igor
Happy New Year
Sorry for my English

Hey, @NearCommunity

Happy new year for you! I hope it will be a year of many achievements for all the things that we consider important to create spaces for dialogue and acceptance of differences!

about me feeling offended, I don’t feel offended by nudity or bodies, or even sex, I’m interested in learning more about it. I understand that exposing the body can be a political struggle. I think it’s very important that there is this space for discussion for all of us, including to exchange how the struggles and achievements in different cultures, such as Russia and Brazil, have been done. In fact, even a more in-depth discussion of pornography can also be very fruitful.

About Bataille, I confess that I have read little, which is why I am so excited to participate in this seminar. But, about what you mentioned, it seems to me the issue of the difference and conflicts between wanting and desiring, which operate in different fields. I understand you well, is it?

Thanks for the post and the quote!

Hey, @NatLoyola
I think we understand each other and will find a compromise in any situation, for the sake of developing an ecosystem in different gender chains! :kissing_heart: :+1:

Pretendo conhecer bem o projeto.

So interesting, this project unites threes things I love: Bataille, erotism, and NFT/blockchain. My favorite book of all time is the ultra-psychoanalytic “Story of the Eye”, which made me understand myself. I don’t do erotic art currently, but I intend to do. I only write erotic books (most pornographic stuff). I would like to know better your project.

é bem vindo a participar
