[Report/mpDAO Grant # 8] Governance Matters: BLOCKCHAIN EN EL CINE

Blockchain in Film | Devcon Edition took place in December 2024 in Lima, Peru.

The event was organized by the communities DeFinomic Labs and 21Mbulls, with the goal of bringing the Devcon experience to the local community and introducing the benefits of liquid staking and DAOs through Meta Pool. The agenda featured a screening of short films showcased at Devcon, shared insights from the event, and an introduction to liquid staking focused on Ethereum.

The event took place in the Jesús María district at the renowned Cineplanet cinema. The setting was ideal for learning, thanks to the excellent sound and image quality, which facilitated effective onboarding, particularly for students from prestigious local universities such as the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and the National University of San Marcos, among others. It was a unique opportunity to learn about blockchain technology in an innovative and entertaining environment, marking the first time these topics were addressed in a cinema setting in Peru.

During the event, attendees, mainly students, gained firsthand knowledge of the benefits of participating in international events like Devcon. Additionally, the opportunities offered by Meta Pool were highlighted, not only regarding liquid staking but also in areas such as obtaining grants, earning rewards for governance participation, and professional growth within the industry.

The event was attended by key strategic partners, including brands like Devcon and Meta Pool and Community of University economists in Peru.

We approached governance by introducing key concepts and showcasing their impact. Instead of a general audience, we focused on economics students and individuals eager to engage deeply—just as active protocol governance requires.

The discussion covered DAOs’ impact on organization and fundraising for social causes, along with Meta Pool’s commitment to talent development. We highlighted its blockchain scholarships in Zurich, grants for emerging markets, and the investment opportunities available to university students through its DAO, tokenomics, and governance structure.

A key milestone was bringing blockchain to cinema. Film has long played a role in introducing people to blockchain’s potential, and this, combined with insights into Meta Pool and its scholarships, sparked strong interest among students eager to advance their careers.

A key aspect of this event is that we were able to connect with an interesting user profile for long-term growth, mostly university students from Peruvian Association of Economics Students, Economics of PUCP, AAII of PUCP, UNMSM students and members from Wine (Women in Economics).

Likewise, a session on Meta Pool and liquid staking was included in the dETHconomics program developed by Definomics Labs and APEECO for more than 400 economics students in Latin America.

This event demonstrated the power of localized, immersive experiences to demystify blockchain and inspire the next generation of DAO contributors. By bridging cinematic storytelling with Web3 education, we unlocked a fresh narrative for decentralized governance that speaks directly to young talent in emerging markets. Targeting a specialized audience of university students, Blockchain en el Cine is not just a milestone. It is a blueprint for how culture, education, and technology can converge to scale community-led innovation.
