What we proposed: April 2022 Funding Proposal

Objective:

The main objective of the Writer’s Guild is to facilitate creative projects within the NEAR community, bringing the writing medium to the blockchain through creative innovation. We aim to be inclusive and diverse in the projects we support and we aim to build collaborative efforts between media forms and artists.

April Community Activities:

In April, we facilitated community participation through a poetry bounty on the NEAR forums. 50 people participated in the poetry bounty, sharing their work, and have either received a 0.5 N bounty or have not yet submitted a transfer proposal on astro. As of the date of this report, 36 participants have been paid out their 0.5 N bounty. The bounty opportunity was shared with the community through social media. Participants were directed to submit their work within the NEAR forums along with their NEAR wallet address and social media account handle. 10 winners were selected for a 1N prize:

  • larrsfiaskid.near for their poem “A Constant in Life”
  • seck.near for their poem “The Set Time”
  • ptanhngoc1205 for their poem “Out Story”
  • duyhoa.near for their poem “Dare”
  • deephread.near for her son’s poem “Cigarros”
  • luluca_I.near for their poem “About Other Things”
  • roxytheentertainer.near for his poem “The Dot That Is Not Purple”
  • hieunguyenn.near for their poem “I Want a Life of Freedom”
  • nararosetto.near for her poem “I’m Still Here”
  • trhien014.near for their poem “Leave Everything”

We also facilitated community participation through a logo bounty and the winner aandz.near received a $240 DAI bounty. We had a total of 23 participants in the logo contest. This logo will be used to update our social media channels and our mintbase store.

Funding of Council Work: $1,148 USD in NEAR was equally divided among 7 council members ($164 USD in NEAR each).

Financial Movements:

The Writer’s Guild directs funding to accepted proposals in two halves. The first half of funding is released to encourage production once proposals are voted upon and the second half of funding is released when the proposed project is completed. A project report is required of funded projects on the 25th of each month. This month, there was a delay in receiving funding which prompted the council to allow final project reports for April’s proposals to come in by May 10th.

Funds directed to Council members are released at the beginning of each month.

Next Steps:

We intend to create a Medium publication to share our members’ content and a website. We are in the process of creating a social media plan.

In May, the Writer’s Guild intends to fund a variety of projects including: The French Shelter to the South-American Literary Boom (600 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @ortega, Latin American Dramaturgy Trilogy (450 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @JohnFaus, and 8 Flash Fiction pieces as sci-fi NFTs (800 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @gabrielfelipejacomel.

Thank you,

The Writers’ Guild (NEAR Writers Collective)
