[Proposal] Onboarding & Workshop during NFT BCN

I would like to do a workshop during NFT BCN and onboard people to NEAR and Mintbase.

The workshop will be in Spanish and offer free entrance in order to reach more people. The whole conference and exhibition has free entry and should be a great opportunity to get some attendants to experience hands on how easy and affordable it is to mint on NEAR and Mintbase.

Program:

The workshop will last 3 hours and will cover:

  • Basic overview of NFTs and NEAR
  • Wallet set up, best security practices
  • Receiving and viewing NFTs in the wallet and on Mintbase
  • Mintbase interface, web3 login and profile creation
  • Store creation, default royalties and general settings
  • Adding and removing minters
  • Minting interface, mandatory and optional fields
  • Royalties and splits
  • Types of files: still, animated, video, audio, 3D, PDF, SVG vector
  • NFT storage, what is Arweave
  • Editions, choosing how many to mint
  • Transferring and burning
  • Listing for sale, how to choose a price
  • Buying NFTs, searching the marketplace
  • Accessing the integrated 3D virtual gallery
  • Promotion tools, Twitter, Telegram groups, Discord servers

We will have demonstrations and practical exercises, with time for questions and some individual tutoring. The goal is to have each participant create a wallet, set up their Mintbase profile, mint and list at least one NFT, and buy at least one NFT from another workshop participant.

Each participant will receive: neardrop to create a wallet, certificate of attendance / POAP in NFT form, printed booklet with didactic material, paper wallet for keeping their seed phrase / basic access info.

If there is interest, we can record the workshop in video. We also propose to set up an exhibition in Cryptovoxels to showcase the results and create some buzz around the NFT BCN event.

Budget

The proposed budget is the following (some items are marked as optional but would be great to have all of them happen)

  • neardrops for wallet creation and buying from each other: 1 N per person (max 30 attendants)
  • store creation on Mintbase: 6.5 N
  • instructors fee for 3 hour workshop (includes preparation and setup): 250 USD
  • developing of didactic materials: 200 USD (the materials will become open source and available for the community to reuse in the future)
  • printing of didactic materials and paper wallets: 30 USD
  • developing and managing of POAP / certificate of attendance NFTs for all participants: 100 USD
  • video recording of workshop (optional. only if desired for later use): 250 USD
  • exhibition in cryptovoxels (optional) - setup + parcel rental: 250 USD

Below are some photos from a previous workshop I gave in Spain, when the participants used the Ethereum version of Mintbase (this was February 2020 so no NEAR yet… gas was so cheap then that each of them deployed their own contract! Good old times

maybe the onboardingDAO can help you? :eyes: #onboarding-dao what you guys think? @FritzWorm @mr_free @NatalieCrue @zubairansari07 @Symbolik

Yep! The funding will be for more than $500, lets discuss that, I do support this onboarding event

What I think you dont need, but if you still think you need it go ahead:

This is like professional video shooting and edition?

Thanks @FritzWorm for the support and @kc_sollano for tagging #onboarding-dao

From my experience with onboarding events IRL, the printed materials are extremely useful. Especially the paper wallets. People are used to web2 where some corporation will “take care of you”, reset your password, provide lots of support, etc… Sadly I’ve seen many people for example just screenshot their seed phrase and then later they lose their phone or have to factory reset it, suddenly their web3 identity is irrecoverably gone. Or, they can’t remember the url for the wallet or what they can do with it so they never get further involved in the ecosystem.

Besides the paper wallet for onboarding, in longer workshops with lots of content covered, I also find useful to have a small booklet where they can easily see the key information, and also jot down notes. It’s a lot to grasp, and they leave the event and end up forgetting most of it. I normally include a small glossary of blockchain terms (people get stuck with the lingo, and also it’s super useful to be able to explain to their friends, and become “instant” experts - this is a great trick :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

Below is the printed booklet I used in the 2020 workshop I mentioned in the post. So much changed since then, but just to have an idea of what it can look like:

cryptoart handout.pdf (130.5 KB)

And about the video recording, I included it in the proposal because the organizers of NFT BCN told me the venue offers this possibility of paying extra to have the event professionally recorded. I thought it might be useful to have the part that is more presentation / demo like recorded in this way. This material can come handy for picking up small educational clips, etc… The editing part though (at least selecting which clips to use) will have to be done later by someone knowledgeable about blockchain, so they know which parts are more relevant. But maybe it can also be just uploaded as a whole to youtube.

A while ago I did one in a series of zoom lectures explaining how to mint on different platforms, it was an initiative by Dada.art and they have a huge Spanish speaking artist community. To this day, some people contact me and thank me for this material being available to them, some are now very active and successful in the space and those videos with explanations were their entry point.

Hello @lenara ,
Nice proposal.

  1. Probably 0.5N will be enough for the testing platform. What’s min and expected?
  2. What will be with the store after? Do you close it?
  3. What didactic materials do you want to develop?
  4. Paper-wallets: maybe. Many people lose such papers and it’s not secure
  5. You can mint NFT for the certificate. What do you think?
  6. Video recording: I think it would be great to have educational materials about Near on Spanish. or @FritzWorm is it enough materials already exist? But it would be great to have quality materials and published it on YT channel with audience
  7. cryptovoxels: I think it’s not needed for new users at the first time.

Awesome proposal with details, but The budget is beyond the onboarding dao cap of $500.

Neardrop would require 0.1-0.2N I believe, rest can you tell us on what price would the creators list the NFT?

Curious to know about this more

Maybe onboarding dao councils can support you with providing NEARdrop links only and any other activity that can be summed up in $500 ?

I’m also a fan of this proposal. I love that it’s proposal. The activities are extensive and core to becoming active in the ecosystem. Supporting activations in the Spanish speaking world is also in line with Onboarding DAO’s intentions, by spreading support to different regions and demographics. The only concern I have is tht it’s over the funding threashhold we normally support.

Hehehe I do believe recordings, records, and keep material for other activities is a must. =)

So if it is going to be professional then I support it.

You are asking for more than $1000 USD, if #creatives:mintbase is going to fund part of your project we can give u the other $500 to help you with the onboarding.

Hi @FritzWorm sounds like a great plan. If #onboarding-dao can fund $500 USD and Mintbase can fund the rest would be great! Makes sense as this is a proposal involving both onboarding and Mintbase

What do you think @marianeu and @reginamintbase ?

Take a look at the proposal and let us know.

And regarding @mr_free questions:

  • I proposed 1 N per participant but 0.5 will probably work too :+1: Less than that will be tricky because they will be practicing to list, buy, offer… from my experience we really raise the odds of their further engagement in the NFT space if people actually collect other artists, as well as have their pieces bought by someone.

  • The store after this can be used for more workshops, and will help reduce the budget for future events

  • Yes, we will definitely mint the certificates as NFTs :sunglasses:

  • The paper wallets are meant as extra security. People will be also instructed to keep a digital copy. To be really secure the best is to have your private key in at least two places, one digital, one physical. I know so many sad stories of lost keys, it’s one of my missions to do my best to help people avoid this

  • The didactic materials will cover the workshop program topics I listed above in the initial post, plus a glossary of technical terms.

  • Cryptovoxels is optional, but I believe is a great opportunity to create some attention and buzz during the event. People these days are very interested in metaverse in general, and the possibility for virtual exhibitions and gatherings. Cryptovoxels now is promoting events so can look into getting into their official program. Would be great if we could make this part happen as well.

Hello @lenara,

  1. It would be great if you could use neardrop.io to create neardrop-links (such links allows to create new wallets without funding, or claim drop with existing account and help you to calculate new wallets)
  2. Paper-wallets - ok.

I see your proposal could be collaboration with mintbase-dao. As Fritz mentioned, we trying to support projects to 500$. Could you please split proposal/budget for 2 daos?

This is my proposed budget split between #onboarding-dao and #mintbase

Onboarding DAO:

  • neardrops for wallet creation and buying from each other: 0.5 N per person (max 30 attendants) = 15 N
  • developing of didactic materials: 200 USD (the materials will become open source and available for the community to reuse in the future)
  • printing of didactic materials and paper wallets: 30 USD
  • developing and managing of POAP / certificate of attendance NFTs for all participants: 100 USD

Total: 500 USD (330 USD + 15 N)

Mintbase DAO:

  • store creation on Mintbase: 6.5 N
  • instructors fee for 3 hour workshop (includes preparation and setup): 250 USD
  • professional video recording of workshop: 250 USD
  • exhibition in cryptovoxels - setup + parcel rental: 250 USD

Total: 825 USD (750 USD + 6.5 N)

 Please let me know if looks good and you approve the project @FritzWorm @mr_free @reginamintbase @marianeu

Hi Lenara, the mintbase part seems fine there is just one thing

we are not investing in crytpovoxels at this time. We can lend out a parcel for you for free, but we would not rent another one…

How much would only the setup in one of our spaces cost?

The rental was 50 USD, if you can lend one of your parcels that would be awesome :star_struck:

Then I would update the budget for Mintbase:

  • store creation on Mintbase: 6.5 N
  • instructors fee for 3 hour workshop (includes preparation and setup): 250 USD
  • professional video recording of workshop: 250 USD
  • exhibition in cryptovoxels - setup (see details below): 200 USD
    ** custom building of the space with the theme “Barcelona” - ready at festival opening: 5 hours;
    ** preparing and hanging NEAR chain NFTs with images, videos, links, credits to all artists: 4 hours;
** documentation, screenshots, videos to be used on festival promotion: 2 hours.
** space provided by Mintbase to be available from 13 May to 13 July 2022

Total: 775 USD (700 USD + 6.5 N)

  • exhibition in cryptovoxels - setup: 200 USD (no rental)

what is the setup exactly?

take a look at this proposal:

in the budget part  If you have the time, I’d appreciate to know exactly what is being funded (time spent building things, etc)

thank you - I am sure this workshop will be great

Hello @lenara
It’s great. Thank you!

I added parcel setup details, as well as timeframe for the parcel loan (you’re right it’s not a rental but a loan from Mintbase

Let me know if it looks good.

looks good to me. How can I approve only the Mintbase part of this proposal?

I will make two new posts for each half so Mintbase and Onboarding DAO can approve separately :+1:

@marianeu this is the post with only the Mintbase part:

And here’s a post with just the #onboarding-dao part, take a look @mr_free @FritzWorm
