THE CREATIVES DAO JOURNEY

  • Short Summary of Your and Team’s Professional Experience

The Creatives DAO has been one of the most active ecosystem DAO that bring NEAR closer to the creative communities worldwide. Both funding practices and the structure of the DAO evolve through time to improve funding efficiency and adapt with the priorities of the NEAR ecosystem in different stages. Guernsey: Non-Charitable Purpose Trusts Community of the CreativesDAO have prepared a report in September which is available in two parts on the NEAR Social.

NDC V0 Report:

  • Part 1
  • Part 2

Creatives DAO has shifted its focus from funding content creation projects to more blockchain-focus & onboarding-oriented proposals in the creative field. We will continue to reaffirm this focus following NDC V1 priorities.

During V0 (May-Oct), we have:

  • Established our Trust Instrument (Guernsey: Non-Charitable Purpose Trusts) to legally receive funding from NDC Trust and hold it in the trust treasury. The instrument is advised by the Walkers Law Firm.
  • Presented and has exposure to notable Blockchain IRL events: NEAR APAC, ETH Milan
  • Funded initiatives in important ecosystem events: NEAR APAC & NEARCON
  • Funded and supported the kick-off of NDC NFT Working Group
  • Established partnerships and supported meaningful initiatives with:
    • Proof of Vibes
    • Gloa
    • Music Feast
    • GenaDrop Bounty for BOS hack
    • El Cafe Cartel x MeteorWallet
    • ShardDog
    • MarmaJ
    • DAOrecords
    • Minority Programmers
    • Wacom
    • Gensokishi
    • YGG
    • NFT WG

Section 7. DAO/Project Charter/White or Litepaper and Goals

  • Mission: The CreativesDAO’s mission is to propagate NEAR technology by supporting and funding the growth and development of the creative community and its projects, bringing NEAR’s tools/dapps into life.
  • Vision: Creatives DAO aims to become a hub for projects that provide and promote blockchain solutions for the creative industry on NEAR Protocol, onboarding creative devs & artists thus gaining recognition for the NEAR ecosystem.
  • DAO/Project Charter: The CreativesDAO Charter; Work In Progress, as stated in the CreativesDAO Charter, undergoes periodic review upon significant evolution of the NDC. It is set to be revised in NDC V1 to align more closely with the NEAR ecosystem.
  • How can your DAO / Project achieve NDC priorities, goals, and KPIs?
Since the team is working full-time on CDAO, we are closely monitoring every approved project and its achievements. We have experimented with multiple metrics, scores, and KPIs and concluded that our main focus is team experience, value proposition measured in onboarded and active wallets, and the quality of the delivered content. We believe that a mix of these metrics will allow us to onboard more meaningful creative communities into NEAR and empower real-life artists. In order to stay in touch with the broader NEAR community, CDAO provides weekly updates, gathering the most important news from the Creatives neighborhood and beyond.

  • Will your team be working on this project full-time? Yes
  • Will your team be fully remunerated from this budget? Yes

Section 9. Project/DAO longevity

  • Does your project/DAO require one-time or continuous funding? Ongoing funding
  • Will your DAO/Project device be a way of sustaining itself after this round of funding? N/A since CDAO is an ecosystem DAO
  • What are the possible roadblocks to the success of your project/DAO?
The potential roadblocks to the success of CreativesDAO include the complexity of available tools for newly onboarded creatives. While these complexities may not pose problems for insiders, they can present challenges for newcomers. This suggests that a possible roadblock is the lack of passionate individuals around NEAR and beyond. The second roadblock pertains to proper reporting or the failure to deliver the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by the community. Although we believe everyone works with the best intentions, real-life problems might be the ones that could lead to unfulfilled promised KPIs. The third potential roadblock could be the constant need for pivoting and restructuring within the community. Since the DAO is always a work in progress, this constant need for adaptation might pose a serious roadblock in achieving previously set goals.

Dear HOM, in a nutshell, those changes will change our funding practice:

Funding practice: compulsory milestone based

  • Monthly proposal => milestone-based funding
  • Terminate 100% upfront funding => Initial fund will be decided based on individual proposal => Grants unlocked after KPIs delivery & report
  • Report review to be prioritized
  • -̶C̶r̶e̶a̶t̶i̶v̶e̶s̶ ̶D̶A̶O̶ ̶s̶p̶e̶n̶d̶s̶ ̶m̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶m̶i̶n̶t̶ ̶n̶e̶w̶ ̶N̶F̶T̶ ̶&̶ ̶c̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶n̶e̶w̶ ̶c̶o̶n̶t̶e̶n̶t̶.̶ ̶ => Focus on development of products/tools/solution for the creatives economy & onboarding

We know extra work will be needed for us to carry out those OKRs. But we want to prove that Creatives DAO is well aware of NDC priorities and the creators in the ecosystem will be supported to contribute to those KPIs in a more proactive & KPI-focused ways.

I am willing to sponsor CDAO and their proposal to the HoM in NDC V1, but I have provided my feedback to this specific proposal from a high level in a TG chat.

Willing to share more feedback here if needed.

Would like more specifics as to what measurable results CDAO hopes to achieve so that the HoM can efficiently measure the success of CDAO as a GDAO within the NDC.

Milestone-based funding distributed after a project is complete is a good first step, but it is also important to ensure that the projects that are taken up adhere to the COA vision and align with CDAO OKRS for the HoM to vote.

Thank you for the added info.

It would still be great to see:

The duties of the advisors if they are meant to be on-boarded in month 1 of the roadmap (December).

More details about the CDAO election as is outlined in the charter.

And maybe specifically what areas of the charter will be outdated in v1.

Personally I find it difficult to propose for a DAO that has a charter that will change in v1, but has not yet changed. It seems like the HoM would be voting prematurely?

There is more info added about clearer metrics that CDAO what’s to hit, but I’m still having a hard time placing those metrics within the scope of the CoA vision.

For example, the metrics sheet shows how much it should cost to onboard a wallet, but I don’t think I seeing how many wallets CDAO hopes to onboard in each month, which seems like the much more important metric to track.

Same with social metrics, it doesn’t state the goals for each platform, or if those are general goals, and it doesn’t note any on chain social goals specifically.

Imo there should be CLEAR AND WELL DEFINED goals that CDAO what’s to hit that align with the CoA vision for the NDC. It might help to even put the line
item from the CoA doc beside each metric to clearly show each HoM member how the proposal aligns as well?

To do what? What is the purpose of CDAO being involved in NDC V1, I’m not sure how this is an ORK or what can be tracked here.

How many groups will apply? How many do you hope to fund? What types of milestones are these DAOs going to be trying to hit?

I think it’s great to have milestone based funding, but if those milestones have nothing to do with the CoA vision, then I am not sure how it is relevant here specifically. Seems like a funding detail and not an OKR tbh.

Again, how is this an OKR? What is there to track or measure against? Funding info should always be clear and if it isn’t that’s a large issue. How does this OKR adhere to the CoA vision? Again, seems like something that should happen regardless in every grassroots DAO and not an OKR.

Also not sure how this is measurable or how HoM members could possibly vote on a point like this? Every GDAO should be in some way ready to expand if it is necessary to service the community more efficiently. Forcing expansion doesn’t seem to make much sense though. Imo an OKR for expansion and making near a household name (onboarding more users to web3), there would have to be measurable results attached to the OKR for growth. How much growth in what period of time? Growth among what sectors and among what demographics and how will CDAO achieve that growth.
