The month of September has been one of the busiest months to date for the Marketing DAO:
Four out of the five Council members attended NEARCON, where they had the opportunity to meet with many grantees, many more potential grantees, and with core NF members.
While we expected some delays in processing due to travel times and the week packed with activities during NEARCON, we put in extra effort to ensure we cleared out as many of the pending application as possible before NEARCON;
We also held extra meetings per week and dedicated a lot more time than usual to be able to clear the backlog of applications. We are proud to have successfully processed over 95% of the applications that were pending by the time NF requested we pause funding (more information on this soon).
The usual procedure for assessing applications has remained constant:
Index all applications on a spreadsheet where we track the date (and how long has it been outstanding, prioritising the oldest proposals), each Council member’s vote, whether there are any pending questions;
Reviewing each proposal. This requires going down a rabbit hole of social media links, past work, etc.
When applicable, review past proposals reports.
Ask questions, provide feedback, communicate reasoning for proposals clearly
Vote on AstroDAO
Assist new applicants on the procedure to request funds from the Foundation
Liaise with other funding bodies NF, Human Guild, Creatives DAO, etc. when required.
There is one key changes to this Remuneration proposal;
Marketing DAO is moving from NEAR based compensation (400 NEAR) to USD based compensation $4,000ea. There are several reasons for this change:
Shifting to USD based compensation would put us in line with most other grants.
The original compensation amount at the time was agreed to be around ~$4,000. This dates back to the days when we still had NF employees as part of our Council and was the reference amount used to set the 400 NEAR valuation
Protracted Bear market has resulted in many months of significantly less compensation
The responsibility and expectations on Council members continue to increase. Demoralised and burned out Council members do not perform well.
The shift is still within or below the acceptable costs of administering a DAO (below 30%)
We will be making an official announcement soon regarding the current review and upcoming changes to Marketing DAO for the month of October. I’d like to thank everyone for your patience so far, we are hard at work to double down on what works and get rid of the fluff.
Thank you for putting this together @satojandro Still supporting as much as possible here and appreciate all that has gone into keeping things moving- especially over the last few months. Big things on the horizon as well.
Marketing DAO Council members abstain from voting on their own proposals due to a conflict of interest. For instance, I do not vote on my proposals for my Youtube Channel.
The one exception is the Remuneration proposal as it includes all five Council Members it would obviously not be possible to pass if everyone abstains.
As I mention on the post, this proposal is a continuation of the remuneration arrangement that has been in place since the beginning of the year when NF members were still part of the DAO.
I’ll close by saying that we are also working very closely with NF to review and improve all processes.
As a long standing member of the Marketing DAO council I think that it is important to focus on our key role - helping the community achieve it’s marketing goals.
We are now working closely with @jackc and @shreyas from the Foundation to ensure that we achieve best value for the funds disbursed, and to put new structures in place. I believe that this is a positive development and will benefit the community as a whole.
I am looking forward to continuing to contribute to the DAO and it’s activities.The changes in our council remuneration are also in preparation for the future, as we take on more responsibility and workload.
Thanks @satojandro for posting this and including the updates for the community. I’m optimistic about what lies ahead and thankful for the Foundation’s support and input into the MarketingDAO’s operations and structure going forward so we can continue to achieve this entity’s key role – as @cryptocredit said, to help the community reach its marketing goals while also ensuring the best value for the funds disbursed.
imho this does not solve the conflict of interest issue. Influence over others is hard to avoid on cases like this.
It would be wise for the talks with NF (on every vertical) to include strategies and guidelines to solve the issue. Creatives Dao implemented turnouts and still has complaints from the community, therefore a council with no turnout will face the same situation.
Then it’s a decent pay? When community Councils of about 4 or more in creatives DAO have to share 1.5k for community moderating.
Are we not all working in making the ecosystem better?
Also, when are we having new set of Marketing Councils?
I would strongly recommend you take up your thoughts or grievances on Creatives DAO remuneration to the appropriate forum.
Marketing DAO and Creatives DAO are completely independent of each other. We do not have a say on what the Creatives DAO approves or how much the people involved with the administration of the Creatives DAO get paid.
As for the amount of time and the work that we do, I believe that the original post and Dacha’s breakdown does a very good job at providing an insight.
This is very well thought decision and need of an hour…
the process of reviewing proposals requires::
1)regular internal/external meet
2)well though decision on proposals
3)regular communication
4)keeping track of everything:
5)Focus and keeping in aligned with the near protocol mission.
The work involves in the process of reviewing 100s of proposal every month requires lot of time and focus. And then there is also internal/external meets that also consumes lot of time.
Hi.
I saw the salary of the moderators of the creative and compared them with the salary of marketing. If we compare how it is claimed and to whom it is claimed, then it would be more correct to reduce the salary in the creative department. Now the salary in marketing has become more, now I think you can watch them. Why do you have such a division in the ecosystem? If you look at my messages better, you will see that I do not give preference to any department. I’m sorry I was away and made you miss me. There was a lot of work. Now my attention will be entirely yours.lol)))
Thx
