Introducing 0xramp: non-custodial local fiat ↔ any NEAR Intents asset

gm NEAR,

I’m Vini B (@vinibarbosabr on X and on Github). I run thecoding.pool.near and I’m a House of Stake active participant. Most of you may have already seen something from me in NEAR-related communities, so I won’t spend much time presenting myself.

Today I’ll be presenting 0xramp at the NEAR Eco Collab Call (3 PM UTC), so I also wanted to introduce it here – for everyone else to meet what we are building and open it for community questions.

I’m not alone on this endeavor. I’m building it with Michael (Zcash Brazil) and the project was actually his idea. He is the big architect behind the app and the integrations (including NEAR Intents).

Michael (@michael2xl on X or @Michae2xl on Github) is a software engineer and product owner. He has led Zcash Brazil for 4.5+ years, is a day-one ZecHub DAO member, a ZCAP participant, and co-founder of Offchain Brazil. He stood up the Zcash Discord and helped run the first Zcon Voices outside the US. He has been in crypto as a user and builder for a decade, with the kind of skin in the game that not many people share.

He is also a NEAR fan. Intents is not a bolt-on we discovered later. It is the conversion layer he chose so a P2P.me USDC escrow on Base can become ZEC, NEAR, SOL, or anything else in the catalog, without 0xramp ever holding the funds. I came in on product, ops, docs, and to help on the NEAR side of things.

Together we ship 0xramp: a non-custodial on/off-ramp for people who already pay with Pix, UPI, Alias, Pago Móvil, GoPay / QRIS, and the other local rails in the catalog. These are highly adopted payment systems from Brazil, India, Argentina, Venezuela, Indonesia, and other countries with active communities of crypto users, but without enough good ramps.

I’ll walk through it on today’s NEAR Legion Eco Collab Call at 15:00 UTC (Bei / Hevn, Joe / DevHub, and us). This post is the written intro for everyone who is not on that call.

Why this belongs on NEAR

The product is not “another checkout widget that happens to list NEAR.”

NEAR Intents is the piece that makes the rest of the stack composable.

P2P.me already has a merchant network that escrows USDC on Base against a real Pix / UPI / … payment. That only gets you USDC on one chain. The user in Recife or Lagos does not want that hop. They want ZEC, NEAR, SOL, or whatever they actually use, in a wallet they control, with the fewer intermediary steps as possible.

Intents is how those two worlds join without us having to touch our users’ funds.

  1. User pays a P2P.me merchant on the local rail (from their own bank app).
  2. Merchant escrow releases USDC on Base.
  3. A reserved Intents route converts that USDC into the asset and chain the user picked.
  4. Sell is the same path in reverse: asset → reserved Intents deposit → Base USDC → merchant pays the user’s Pix / UPI / … key.

0xramp never holds the keys or the fiat. We are the interface + session layer: quote, address, status, receipt. The user’s wallet signs the Diamond order. Intents executes the conversion.

v1.0.0 is live at 0xramp.app (buy/sell, swap, activity, account/limits). Just launched!

Privacy, honestly

NEAR has been pushing user-owned infrastructure and private computation. Zcash has been pushing shielded money. Those two communities already overlap, and ZEC is the pinned default on 0xramp for that reason, followed closely by NEAR as the second chain in the selection list and dropdown menu.

Some things that make 0xramp interesting from a sovereign and privacy perspective:

  • No 0xramp custody. No 0xramp payment account. No 0xramp pooled fiat.
  • Sell payout keys are encrypted to the merchant in the browser. We keep a hash, not the plaintext.
  • Buy destination is chosen by the user. On a buy, the Base recipient is the Intents deposit, not the ZEC address.
  • Everything is controlled by a user wallet, which can be a NEAR one (but not only).

Early numbers (public, dated)

On 21 August we posted an early-ops snapshot, ~21 days in:

  • $11,553.69 settled across 167 orders
  • Fiat: BRL still first; INR and VEN already behind it
  • Assets in that cut: USDC on Base ~48%, ZEC ~20%, NEAR ~7%, then AVAX / SOL / others

That is a beta run-rate. We plan to share more data on how this grows over time. Brazil currently has the largest volume; we expect that to thin out as the other stable corridors (INR, IDR, ARS, VEN) and the alpha set (COP, NGN, ECU, BOB, CUP, PEN, PHP) start getting used more.

Personally, I would love to see NEAR growing its share of use in the app.

IronClaw

I’ve been using IronClaw as a working assistant on this project: reading flows, drafting internal notes, assisting with documentation work, product research, and minor executions.

What would help us a lot

  • Try a small order on 0xramp.app. NEAR in and out of local fiat is the path that is most useful to this forum. If you are not from a covered country, have us in mind when you need to send fiat to one of them.
  • If you build a wallet, merchant tool, or Intents-facing app and want the ramp behind a button, talk to us.
  • Feedback on the Intents hop (quotes, deposit window, failed-route behavior) is more valuable than generic “nice UI.” We are eager to improving the app.
