Introduction

Our main objective this month, our third of existence, is to continue Writers Guild’s work in supporting, spreading the presence and bringing more creative writing workers to help us build the Near ecosystem. You can see the projects we funded and their results in our April report.

May plans and projects

Last month we onboarded dozens of new writers with our Poetry/Prose bounty, started to create assets to make our presence stronger on social media with our Logo bounty and this month we intend to keep our community growing and creating by funding projects from writers around the globe. April was a very busy month, the funds came later than expected, projects were delayed, but we believe these hurdles are a part of building something new; we are all learning as we navigate in our roles and things are getting back in place without any major losses. This month, we intend to create both a Medium publication to share our members’ content and a website. Internally, the Council is focused on building a social media strategy through which we can disseminate the works in our community, and our final vision will be a proposal in June.

Keeping diversity in mind, here are the projects that the Writer’s Guild has selected to carry out in May:

  1. Asemic writting
    (300 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @pinkalsky
This project was approved last month, but the author asked for the project to be delayed and will carry on this month.

  2. The french shelter to the south-american literary boom
    (600 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @ortega

  3. Latin American dramaturgy trilogy
    (450 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @JohnFaus

  4. 8 flash fiction pieces as sci-fi NFTs
    (800 usd in NEAR/DAI) submitted by @gabrielfelipejacomel

  5. Writing contest
250 usd in NEAR/DAI will be allocated to a writing contest.
This contest will be shared with the community through social media and participants will be directed to submit their work within the NEAR forums. The theme of May’s writing contest will be “Incommunicability” and participants will be directed to submit one-page of material. The top 10 submissions will be awarded 25 usd in NEAR/DAI.

  6. Cover image bounty
150 usd in NEAR/DAI will be allocated to a cover image bounty.
This artwork will be used in our Medium publication. Versions of this artwork will also be used as a cover image in our AstroDAO and Twitter profiles. This bounty opportunity will be shared within the NEAR Creative Community to encourage participation.

  7. Creation of Medium publication (200 usd in NEAR/DAI)
As a guild focused on creative writing, even having an expanded vision of what “writing” can be, we believe that having a publication on Medium platform, where we can share the funded projects and other content produced or related to our guild, is a must have. Medium publications works as a kind of magazine/portal where collaborators can be added, submit their articles and be published. To create/build this structure is a time-consuming task, so we believe this should be an extra paid service made by one of our council members, in this case, @bagadefente, who has worked with Medium since its beginning, back in 2013.

  8. Creation of Writer’s Guild website (450 usd in NEAR/DAI)
Beside the Medium publication, where we share more dynamic content, we need a website to display the works of funded projects and to display the initiatives of community members. This website would be a compendium of our achievements and a touchstone for community members to read about our vision, our past projects, and future ambitions.

  9. Council work: 1500 usd in NEAR/DAI equally split among the 6 council members
    (250 usd in NEAR each)

  10. 300 usd in DAI to bring our bills up to date, as described in this post.

TOTAL BUDGET: 5000 usd in NEAR/DAI

Timeline: May 10th – 31st

Thank you,
The Writers’ Guild (NEAR Writers Collective)
